Trade ideas

Says we are willing to listen on Lauri according to other teams. Mentions OKC. Says we are unlikely to move him.

Also another trade rumor monger that basically says LaVine has very little to no market right now.

The biggest thing I took from that is this:

Markkanen will be eligible to negotiate and extend his current contract before its final season begins in 2024-25. And there’s a sentiment among cap strategists that Utah perhaps won’t consider Markkanen’s next salary point a worthwhile cost if the Jazz are so far from the playoff picture with Markkanen as their best player. But it would surely take a massive haul for some team to pry the 26-year-old from the Jazz.

It really just depends on how far away Ainge and Zanik think we are. Also you know the 2025 and 2026 drafts are coming up with some of the best prospects of the last decade or so.

By the way... listening on the Lauri calls is the right thing to do. I wouldn't listen from every team. I likely wouldn't be pushing to find out his value, but listening is correct.

For what I would accept right now I think only OKC and Indiana have the goods.

ATL has some interesting young players, but I think they can only add the Kings pick this year and their 2029. But they could toss in Hunter, Okongwu, Johnson, Griffin, Bufkin, Bey....come to think of it, I don't understand why they suck so bad lol. I'm not interested in all of those guys, but I'd value most of them more than a late first round pick.

I dont think Utah will really care about paying Lauri. That cap strategist line just sounds like people speculating for the sake of speculation.

Maybe, keeping Lauri without getting other star players will keep us in no man’s land though. Need to pick a side shortly I think.

Yeah I think Lauri is absolutely worth a max and we have ways to make it more team friendly by giving him $20M on top of his salary next year. I know 25 and 26 will be good drafts... just not sure why you didn't tank harder and why you go get John Collins if the long term plan was a complete tear down?

I think if I was putting odds to it...

5-10% chance of a Lauri deal
5-10% chance of a big trade... and I think it would be LaVine most likely
80%-90% chance we offload a vet or two for some seconds.

100% chance of all of us complaining no matter what.

Sacramento does as well in my opinion if they could make the pick they owed to Atlanta unprotected.

If Lakers remove protection, and add two more quality picks somehow then I would move Lauri to the Lakers. And getting our pick back from OKC would sway me greatly because it is tied to the performance of the team. Sorry Lauri, rebuilds destroy winning and you got skills to help a championshup run. The Jazz are not getting there soon.

**** you

Again, it's impossible to be in no man's land when you have the pick assets Utah has. It's just impossible.

You’re right. No man’s land might not have been the best way to describe it. Getting a pick in the 7-10 range every year is what is going to happen until we do something though.

You could make the language work so that you assume it conveys this year... which is a safe assumption. I would probably try to get 26/28/30 and get super swaps in 25/27/29. I don't think they would put Murray in the deal. It would also depend what you could get from a third team for Barnes. I don't love it but Kings gonna Kangz over the long term right? maybe not.

I don't think we're going to get the Don/Rudy level packages for Lauri. 2/3 young players + 2/3 picks is more like what I'm expecting if it were to get done. Maybe a little bit more than the Ringer Warriors deal.

Agreed, but it also depends on who you deal with. OKC is pick rich so they’ll be expected to cough up more than other teams.
