What's new

Game #12 Jazz@Denver, Sunday 1/15 6:00 p.m.

I do think the minutes tonight were warranted. Corbin kept a leash on CJ tonight, and Burks was let free for awhile even with boneheaded mistakes (1 on 3 fast break with the shot clock off comes to mind).

I'm not saying Bell didn't play well. And yeah, Ty played the minute game perfectly. I'm saying that we're going to see Bell start averaging 25 to 30. And when Bell goes back to being the guy he is, which will be soon, we'll still play him 25-30 because of his perceived importance in the starting role. This is a problem that will come back badly as the year advances and we're actually in the run for a playoff spot.

Burks got some important time minutes today, made some mistakes as noted, but balanced those with good plays too. Good experience.

No Josh Howard, no problem. It was funny reading early in this thread all the four letter words **** when a few people heard he would be out. What those people don't realize is that while Howard has become a pretty good 31 year old player, he simply isn't a difference maker on a basketball team anymore and at his age, unfortunately isn't getting any better. The fact is, his injury, while sad for him, was/is good for the Jazz. The same could be said for both Bell and Miles. These are guys who are known commodities, who aren't getting better, who are keeping guys like Burks and Hayward on the bench more than they should be, and who, ultimately simply aren't going to make a difference in the success of the Jazz - at least no more so than Burks or Hayward would if given their minutes.

I know it is early, but strong candidate for worst post of the year.

Burks is fantastic to watch. He can be so incredibly good, and so incredibly awful. But his talent is undeniable. The one thing I wonder is whether his aggressiveness can be controlled for the good, or if he's going to turn into a Monta Ellis type. I suppose that's a good problem to have, but I don't want to develop the next Ellis, either.

If Burks can help with the distribution, and setting up Harris and Hayward for 3s, this could be a really high scoring team.

The FT disparity is a bit disturbing even with the intentional fouling going on at the end. 39-20 ft in favor of denver. take away the intentional fouls and its a lot worse

I'm a Jazz fan stuck in Denver so I had to listen to their feed. Their post game commentators are so obnoxious I had to register to share. Comments such as "The jazz aren't a team that will be in the mix at the end of the year" or "The nuggets have to learn to take care of lesser teams" or "the nuggets lost to a team that they just should not lose to." Give me a break. What have the nuggets accomplished to justify that garbage? What homers.

I know what you mean. The idiots who the Nuggets hire are absolutely insufferable.

I'm just going to assume you haven't been watching the games.

I didnt see the game, but i thought Denver is overrated since the beginning of the year and even after the game we lost. So even though its a great win and this team proved they are more than getting only home wins against weak teams, we shouldnt get carried away with a simple victory. What i dont like is, with only one game, we make a player either great or disaster, with a simple win or lose, we make the team contender or garbage, this is wrong.

I have full belief we will make playoffs, we arent worse than denver or portland, but we are so far from being a contender. Millsap is a great player, and he should retire here, but Big Al isnt the answer to make this team contender. Im not gonna be fooled he is amazing and his iq increased just because he made a few passes in one game. But honestly, im happy he is playing good, we could get much better players in return in a trade if he plays good, only thing i am afraid is whether KOC will be fooled Big Al is a great great player and he should extend the contract just after a couple of games like this

And about Hayward, i backed him up even in his worst games, so i dont really need to tell anything now, he is all about basketball iq, only concern is he is not good against strong SFs, so i still insist he is a better 2, but then how will Burks play along with him, there is a dillemma here

2 Plays I absolutely LOVED!

1. 2nd-quarter there was a jump ball between Nene and Big Al at the offensive end, Al controlled the tap but Harris was beaten to the spot by Ty Lawson who took off to the other end. Raja Bell didn't quit on the play, raced back, challened Lawson at the rim and forced a miss. Afflalo got the rebound but Hayward raced back and challenged Affalo's layup to force another miss that Bell rebounded. That a statistic doesn't show up in the box score but Utah saved 2 points just because Raja and Hayward ran the floor defensively.

2. 4th-quarter down the stretch and we dump it down to Big Al on the left block. Denver doubles down and Al fires it out to Harris, who swings it over to Bell who swings it to Hayward who dumps it inside to Millsap who quickly posts up and gets both a mismatch and great position inside because Denver was scrambling to recover from their double on Al. Millsap hit the little 8-foot turnaround. That's the type of play that gives you a basketballgasm. It was beautiful and a great example of Jazzbasketball.

Nobody's going to confuse Big Al for Sabonis and he still makes some poor decisions passing out of the lowpost, but compared to the first game in Denver when he was unaware of the double and then essentially just giving the ball to the other team when he did recognize it, to tonight where he's making a consious effort to get the ball out quickly so we can reverse the ball to the weakside - definitely encouraging progress.

Also the body language and positive energy from tonight was an A++. It's a long season and I hate when people get caught up and try to make a big deal out of 1 game, but the Jazz are definitely trending upward which is all you can hope for. There will still be some ugly games and rough stretches this season but there's also alot to be hopeful about.

I actually think Al is a better passer than Millsap when they are both facing up or posted up. AL just spends way more time with his back to the basket, which is a much harder position to pass out of.
