What's new

Game Thread: Clippers @ Jazz, 7 p.m.

Utah takes #2 in the conference, blows out the NBA's newest darlings and ESPN has nothing to say. Probably because they stopped watching the game halfway through the 3rd.

Jefferson was really looking for his teammates tonight. Made several nice passes. Harris has quietly been looking a lot better too, although it's not as easy to see especially in the box score. Harris is much improved over the rim crashing ball dominator of his half season here last year. Utah has really become an opportunistic, flexible and balanced team. Gotta be looking forward to when Hayward gets his groove back.

I feel like I'm supposed to apologize since they didn't have Paul, but we crushed them. Watching this team play as a team is a joy. It's not the same win without Paul, but I'll take it and I liked the way it looked.

Sap was a monster in the 1st and you have to give credit to the gameplan. They freed him up on several basic picks by little guys. Obviously, they saw Griffin was susceptible to picks because he got left in the dust constantly. But Sap's jumpshot has become so good that NO team has any choice but to guard him all over the floor. That makes life easier for everybody.

Harris made a few shots, but I liked his defense tonight (Chauncy which isnt' that hard) and I loved his awareness. He had a stop and pop on the break in the 1st where he made sure Al was down low. A mid percentage shot that he made more safe by ensuring he had a rebounder.

Bell guarded Chauncey.

Bell had exactly the game that terrifies me. He shoots 3/7, has a few nice plays, but contributes 8pts, 2 boards, and an assist in 29 minutes. Once again, we'll pretend his defense made it justifiable. Get ready. Because Raja is going to average nearly 30 minutes before this year is over.

Hayward stunk, but he did finally have a stop and pop in the 3rd which got me excited. I get his deferring to Al and Sap. But he still leaves too many shots on the floor.

Our 2nd unit, which isn't even defined, is such a mismatch for most teams. I love watching us sub because I know we won't miss a beat.

Burks is so unusual to watch. He does things only star players can do, but you can't help but worry that he's not going to get it. He runs breaks badly, he plays aggressively to a fault, he takes dumb shots. On the flips side, he makes plays, gets to the line, and he's productive. I'm really not sure how you reign in a guy like Burks.

Not sure either. Wish he looked to pass a little more, but it seems like he is trying to make his mark by scoring/getting to the line. Maybe being a good defender will help reign him in and give him more of an identity out there. Hopefully Raja is teaching him every defensive trick he knows.
