What's new

Burks

Burks is never going to get real heavy minutes until he plays within the offense. He has a lot of great tools, it'll be fun to watch this kid grow into his role. Good thing he's on a team that's buying in, it should really speed the process.

I think Burks can become the next Corey Maggette...or he could turn into Morris Almond. Perhaps the problem is he just doesn't get a lot of PT, and what he does receive is inconsistent. So when he steps on the court, he feels the need to impress - and most rookies think they do that by scoring a ton of points. I'll give him a free pass this season. At least he's shown the courage to drive and shoot. Let's see if next year, hopefully with more consistent minutes (CJ likely gone), Burks can settle down and pass a lot more.

Yes, if you're watching highlights than the actual game .. as a whole.

During Millsap's rookie year he had a game with 20 points, 17 boards, 4 blocks, 4 steals, 3 assists. How does he get overlooked or underated so much? Burks is good and all, but he's not as exciting as Millsap was.

I was referring to the casual fan. Most fans (fanz) don't remember well, nor watch the details of a game .. more casual bb fans that look for the big plays. Anyone that's played ball knows this. Which means you do. Just trying to state how much that can be done that doesn't show up in the boxscore. Most fans (fanz) tend to make their assumptions from the most RECENT boxscore. Truth.

Is Burks more exciting than Matthews?

Per my earlier post; who are you asking? what's the criteria?

Personally, I find neither exciting. If honest, I like the Matthews brand more appealing from a consistency standpoint. Burks certainly shows potential, for sure, but Matthews shows a steadiness. Burks may get there.

I would also say Burks has more upside, but push come to shove, I trade him for Matthews. Now the neg-reps come.

Burks is a bona fide scorer. He goes left and right fairly equally. He's able to get off his defender with ease. He gets to the free throw line at a Kobe rate.

His shot looks strange. Is it me, or does he follow through with both hands? It's almost like he uses both hands equally in his shooting.
With the shot that he has, I'm not so sure he'll be able to come off that curl and swish that shot, a la Harpring or Hornaceck. I could be wrong though...I haven't seen him come off that curl.

I'd like to see his passes more though. That's the part of his game that will set him apart from your Lance Stephensons and Shannon Browns

Come to think of it, everyone on the Jazz seem to have something strange with their shots..
Devin Harris has way too much hangtime in his shot.
CJ's got that strange lefty thing.
Bell hardly jumps on his shots and the lack of lift makes a lot of his shots come out flat.
Hayward's got a great stroke, but it's slow.
Watson's shot is just flat out strange.
Big Al's got too much of a follow through.
Josh Howard's shot is similar to Burks.
Favors has a good mechanism, but it never goes down.
Kanter and Milsap have great strokes.

But hey, if they're comfortable with it and if the shots are going in, then it's all good.

Thanks for depressing me ..

Sorry, what I meant to say was:

"Burks will be the next D-Wade mixed with the dominance on Dwight Howard, the court vision of Lebron James, and the clutch of Brian Scalabrine"

No one hit the jackpot harder in this draft than the Nets with Marshon Brooks. I was straight hating on that dude but he's looking insanely legit.
