Best Playoff Outcomes for Jazz Trades

I think people are a bit delusional about how attractive is Utah for the unhappy superstars who want to win. These players always have enough pull in those trades since nobody wants to blow all their assets on the star who really does NOT want to be there. All that the Jazz have now is Lauri and a bunch of unproven rookies. Zion or Doncic going there will put them much farther from competing than staying with their current teams. Any star would rather go to other teams that have assets to trade but these teams should also give them a great chance to compete pretty much right away.

If you are Doncic and want to win, would you rather join Lauri or try to team up with Wemby? Or with SGA and Holmgren? With Sengun and Green? The Jazz are simply not an appealing place for star players at this stage but they could be in a year or two if everything goes right.
It is why you either tank for real at the beginning of the season or hang on to players that are not to pricey but complimentary role players on a good team. We waffled on tanking two years in a row and then traded Tech and KO who are both solid role players who dont cost too much.

So the Suns and Pelicans got swept.

Pelicans dont really have to panic, but their roster around Zion is very flawed and their other "stars" are kind of dumpster juice. They have 2 upcoming picks (not including the pick this draft) from the Bucks. The 2025 pick could be extremely valuable if bad luck breaks (which is a decent % chance given their age) and the 2027 pick could be elite, not to mention a swap in 2026. They can definitely swing a high level trade if they want to.

CJ McCollum had a horrendous playoffs. The dude is *** on D and is now becoming *** on offense. He's got 64 million guaranteed over the next two years. Yikes.

Brandon Ingram had an equally horrendous playoffs. I'm still on the acquire Ingram idea, or at least looking hard into it. This could be an opportunity to buy low on his expiring contract.

Dyson Daniels is slightly intriguing rookie contract to look into. The Pelicans need offense badly and they completely benched Dyson in Game 4 and only played 18 minutes in the entire series. I know he was rated as one of the top defenders this past season. Zero offensive game and an extremely mediocre wide open shooter. Not sure what I would pay for him, but he has to be available.

I think Jones/Murphy are probably untouchable as they are perfect role players and I would assume Zion is as well. Him healthy is still enough to swing a series.

What kind of picks would the Jazz have to add to this base package to make it workable? Sexton would give them a bonafide 2nd scoring option next to Zion. Collins give them a contract placeholder they can then use their draft capital to upgrade off of and he can probably be workable next to Zion (or they can convince themselves of that).

For the Jazz you are upgrading size to be a massive team. You could have a starting lineup of Keyonte/Hendricks/Ingram/Lauri/Kessler. Would make drafting a Sheppard or Dillingham much more palatable.

I would be very hesitant in investing draft capital for Brandon Ingram. He has one year left on his contract and he will probably want a raise to agree to an extension and he is never healthy. He hasn't suffered a major injury in his career but he is always dealing with something. At some point availability has to matter and he is constantly unavailable.

Also known as the soft as toilet paper tall lineup. Kessler, Lauri and Ingram are all guys who can be bullied on the nba floor.

Coming off his healthiest season since his rookie year at least.

Ingram also seems incredibly chill/laid back, so he might be willing to re-sign in Utah. I dont think he will command a max deal on his next contract, but I could be wrong.

I think the problem is that if you aren't offering him the max or near the max he likely tests free agency and we can't afford to give much draft capital to risk a one year rental. I would probably give up our worst 2025 pick but that is about as far as I would go with how great Sexton was last year and his contract being really good for 2 more seasons. I'm probably underrating Dyson Daniels in this scenario but I expected to see more progression from him this year.

I was on board going after Ingram until I watched him in this last playoff series. He was just too easy to take out of the game.

It was shocking how bad he was. With Zion out this was his chance to show that he was a star and he folded like a cheap chair.

I’m out on Ingram and any other second tier “star”. I think we have to tank to get a bonafide star or at least tank to get a second tier star on a rookie deal so we can maneuver around the edges. I just don’t want to do shortcut method. Extend Lauri or trade him. If you extend him trade enough other stuff that we have a good chance at a top 4 pick. Reassess from there.

Yeah, and I get that OKC has some great defenders, but Ingram also had several inches on them and couldn't take advantage.

Yeah, it was an awful series, but he dominated his only other playoff series, so he's 1/2. I think he was coming off a late season injury and McCollum was also garbage, so he didnt have anyone helping him. Definitely dont think he's a #1 guy. Still only 26 years old and he's a solid defender.

I'm not really a Daniels guy at all, but he's big and really really good at defense. I dont think he has all that much potential offensively, but if you just keep training up his spot-up ability you have a good role player.
