Yep you got the gist of it, thanks.
On the other hand..... How does one become an MVP contender?
#1 put up great stats. Lauri can check that box
#2 have one of the very best teams in the league.

What if sexton kept up his great play and we leveled up everyone in the roster around Lauri (like a Draymond green level guy, a klay Thompson level guy, Sexton playing at an all star level and then some super role players like the dudes all over the Knicks and Mavs rosters)?

Let's say Lauri is averaging 25/26 points per game on 50% from the field, 40% from 3 and 90% from the line and 8 rebounds and the team is the 2nd seed in the west. Is Lauri in the MVP conversation like SGA?

Said it in another topic, but yeah, hard tank one season and sell it to Lauri and possibly other veterans by developing their weak spots in the game. I would be direct and ask them be patient at least one season and also give a promise that they can ask to be thrown I to trade .market fir real, if Jazz ain't cant be starting to be buyers from 25 forwards.

1. Get a long term contributor out of this draft (prefer wing, but a good guard works too).
2. If a decent expiring contact or draft pick is available for Collins and/or Clarkson then do it.
3. Extend Lauri.
4. If the rookie is a top guard then Sexton should be traded for a pick and player. If it is a wing, then keep Sexton.

Yeah, good thing OKC tanked for SGA.
Also good thing Rockets got that future MVP level guy who is gonna make them a perennial contender in.... wait... almost as if I cannot identify that guy..... thats weird...

Houston felt so good about it they went out and overpaid for Dillon Brooks, FVV, and attempted to on Brook Lopez.

Signing vets is immaterial. It worked. They improved a ton last year. They had stockpiled a ton of young talent and just needed the vets and coach to lead the way.

They had a ton of guys on their first and second years and could afford to do so. VanVleet was just a three year deal and thus has just two left. Brooks is making ~21M per which is nothing in today’s cap which is set to continue to explode. So they’re not really some bad overpays at all.

They tanked for Chet and it sure as hell paid off. You seem to want to be one of those middle of the pack teams that are simply competitive and I want to give us the best chance of getting that game changing star.

They tanked and acquired a bunch of young talent and are in a great position going forward. Can't say the same for us yet.

Without SGA an MVP level player they arent a playoff team and would be below middle of the pack. But not bad enough for more top picks. He is by far the reason they are a great team.
