Said it in another topic,but yeah,hard tank one season and sell it to Lauri and possibly other veterans by developing their weak spots in the game. I would be direct and ask them be patient at least one season and also give a promise that they can ask to be thrown I to trade .market fir real, if Jazz ain't cant be starting to be buyers from 25 forwards.

1. Get a long term contributor out of this draft (prefer wing, but a good guard works too).
2. If a decent expiring contact or draft pick is available for Collins and/or Clarkson then do it.
3. Extend Lauri.
4. If the rookie is a top guard then Sexton should be traded for a pick and player. If it is a wing, then keep Sexton.

Houston felt so good about it they went out and overpaid for Dillon Brooks, FVV, and attempted to on Brook Lopez.

Signing vets is immaterial. It worked. They improved a ton last year. They had stockpiled a ton of young talent and just needed the vets and coach to lead the way.

They had a ton of guys on their first and second years and could afford to do so. VanVleet was just a three year deal and thus has just two left. Brooks is making ~21M per which is nothing in today’s cap which is set to continue to explode. So they’re not really some bad overpays at all.

They tanked for Chet and it sure as hell paid off. You seem to want to be one of those middle of the pack teams that are simply competitive and I want to give us the best chance of getting that game changing star.

They tanked and acquired a bunch of young talent and are in a great position going forward. Can't say the same for us yet.

Without SGA an MVP level player they arent a playoff team and would be below middle of the pack. But not bad enough for more top picks. He is by far the reason they are a great team.

Never said he wasn't but even with him they still recognized the importance of tanking to get more talent around him. We don't have a player even close to SGA's caliber yet some people on here want to make win now moves which will lead us to no mans land. Some on here want to give us the best opportunity to build a champion while others simply want to be competitive. Of course that only being competitive thing wears thin real quick after a few mediocre postseasons. Until we have put together a core group of young players that we feel can grow into something really good we should not be looking to add win now pieces.

So we agree that their path isn't one the Jazz can follow. Without him they are just indefinitely tanking and no one is talking about how great they did. We might as well plan on following the Denver plan and start collecting as many 2nds as possible to land the next Jokic.

I am definitely all in on being competitive and not tanking until we finally land a generational talent. I don't want to watch a decade of us being one of the worst teams.

Winning a championship involves extreme luck for the Jazz. That luck could come from anywhere not just landing top 3 picks.

If the Thunder get eliminated, is there a situation of a deal centered around Lauri for Jalen Williams. It’s possibly a win win situation where Utah gets a young star that fits their timeline, and OKC gets the perfect Robin to SGA. Obviously other parts need to be included.

I don't think Lauri may be interesting to be in a bad team for another 2 or 3 years. He can and will make money anywhere else. If we go full rebuild ( with 2 years delay), then it make sense to trade Lauri .

3) I don't really care what the Jazz do in FA. There isn't exactly anyone to jump at. Miles Bridges does nothing for me as a player.
4) Keep Lauri. The only reason to trade Lauri would be if you're completely enamored with Sarr or Risacher (and I'm not). If he gets traded then a star-level prospect has to come back. It can't just be picks.
5) Keep Colin, since he likes hit here and he's a culture setter, unless someone offers a strong deal that tips the scale.
6) Trade Kessler unless you're happy with him as your backup and no one offers much in trade.
7) Keep Collins because teams aren't offering much, you're tanking and his lack of defense at the 5 helps us do that.

Look at what the Spurs are doing. They're going to end up with Wemby, Topic and Salaun in just two drafts. That's what the Jazz need to achieve in the '24 and '25 drafts. They need three foundational pieces.

After seeing most of the games in this playoffs, we’re so far away from competing that it’s hard to imagine a world where we’re in the playoffs and competing hard with Lauri still on this team. Teams that failed to make the playoffs like Memphis and Houston this year are light years ahead of us. And teams competing right now aren’t going to suffer from that much drop off. A few months ago I would’ve called you crazy for wanting to shop Lauri. But after seeing these playoffs, I’m pretty much convinced that we’re going to need a complete gut job before things get better. Even if we score big in the next drafts with future Goberts, Mitchells, Dwills, Boozers, etc we still can’t compete against the top 12 or so in the west. We may need to wait this cycle until players like Luka, Joker, and Alexander are older/broken before even dream of competing again.

It’s a bad time to be in the west. Seriously, next year is going to be insane. Most of these teams will be back. Memphis and Houston will be better. Who’s dropping out?

Yes. We have their picks in 25, 27, 29 unprotected, plus unprotected swaps in 26, 28. We killed Cleveland in that trade.

Jazz own the Cavs' draft for 5 years starting next year. It's enough for Cleveland to want to trade a significant player in order to bring back picks. Then, having lost a significant player, the Cavs' competitiveness is reduced making it even less likely that Mitchell will extend. Meanwhile, Garland wants a trade if Mitchell DOES extend. Quite the conundrum.
