What's new

It's time to start Watson

If I were the coach, I'd bench Harris and tell him if he wanted his starting job back, then he would have to earn it back. Earl has become the vocal leader of the team and the way he has been playing, he deserves to start. And I wouldn't be surprised if we would've beaten Dallas if Ty didn't put Harris back in.

Harris is in more than just a funk -- his play has been progressively declining since he made the All-Star team, a little like what happened to AK. Maybe he will rebound, but if we want to have the best chance of winning, then Earl should be the man right now. Maybe benching Harris will light a fire under him.

being a clueless tranny isn't any better.
I've mostly agreed with everything you've said throughout multiple threads up to this point. At this point in time, Watson is running the offense MUCH better than Harris is. I'm a Harris fanboy as well, no hate here, but he's playing like ****, and Watson has proven that he can consistently deliver results. Don't be blinded by your man-crush.

I've been on the fence about Harris until tonight. I watched two different plays where he could've gotten back on defense and either contested the shot, or laid down a HARD foul. Both times he did neither. The first time was with a minute or so left in the first half and he was standing at the top of the key when a turnover happened. At that point he was a good ten feet ahead of the person (Rubio, I think) who had just stolen the ball and was already running down to the other basket. Not only did the T-Pup guy catch up to him, but then blew by him on his way to a completely uncontested layup. What was telling was that as soon as they became neck and neck, Harris slowed down and trotted the rest of the way in, watching the guy lay it in. I was fuming pissed. The second time happened again on a fast break where Rubio did that over the shoulder lob/ally-oop. Harris was in position to contest the shot, but chose to just trot down the court and watch the highlight. He didn't jump, he didn't put his arms up, nothing. He could've easily given Rubio a hard foul at the very worst, but instead, stood there with his thumb up his *** watching a massive dunk.

It's clear to me that Harris has mentally checked out of this team, at least for right now. (I think he's never really checked in, and have serious doubts that he ever will.) I would bench him immediately, and would trade him for the first viable option that comes along -- and by "viable" I mean "anything", and that includes 2nd round draft picks, cancer players, bad contracts, and/or a bucket of whale dump.

There's no question Watson would be the better starter. And if Harris wasn't signed for another year, I think the switch would have already been made. But sadly, contracts do matter. We basically have to start Harris and give him minutes in the hopes of getting a little juice behind his value. He becomes much more tradeable as an expiring, but he only has trade value this year if he's contributing. At this point, the hope is a contender loses a PG and they'll actually give us something of value, but we get more if he's actually in the middle of a month shooting 45/35 and handing out 6 to 8 assists.

I don't want Watson starting for the sole reason that I don't want Harris playing with the young guys. Watson brings fire and energy to that 2nd unit and gets them to perform night in and night out. Do you really want them taking their cue from Harris? Harris with the starters is less of a problem to me. As with Jefferson and Millsap they can get their points in the paint. Ideally Harris improves and starts getting the ball up the court faster.

i think Tinsley has the potential to be that guy who gets the young guys going. By all accounts he's already doing a lot of the talking/coaching on the sideline and seems to have a better attitude at lease VS Harris anyway.

My problem isn't how fast Harris gets the ball up the court, it's the consistency and playmaking ability that he seems to lack. Not to mention he can't shoot BUT wants to keep chucking.

Yep. Watson is perfect on the second unit, and Harris's J (as mediocre as it is) is helpful on the first unit.

I have yet to see Harris "chuck". He usually only takes open jump shots. I think he needs to shoot more actually and be more aggressive pushing the ball.

THe way that Watson has the team running and playing with confidence. There is no reason to think that Utah start him until Harris is traded.

Beginning of game? May be. Middle of game? May be.

BUT - Oh for the love of God.. no more air balls at the end of games.. PLEASE..

He took an open shot, and he missed it. It happens. I want him taking open shots. I want everyone on the team to take open shots.
