What's new

Lauri re-signs for 5 years 238 million

I think there are 2 possible scenarios:

Scenario 1

The fact that he made it very public (in videos and interviews, etc) that he had to go back to do the military service and basically the whole world knew about made the military and by extension Finland as a whole very embarassed. It’s very archaic in this day and age to have compulsory military training/service anywhere in the world.

Finland government was left with a red face and ordered the military to end his training somehow, and they did just that quietly.

Scenario 2

Lauri offered to make a “donation” to the military and/or its official to the tune of $1m (he could afford it with the new extension). The military and/or it’s official gladly accepted and everybody’s happy.

Which of the scenarios above do you think is the more likely of the 2?
There's nothing embarrassing about Finland mandatory service. Every nation should have some form of it.

you weird

Well the countries that are 100% mandatory are in the minority by a large margin.
I think about 1/3 of countries in the world today have mandatory military service (including almost all that are neighbors with Russia, as the map shows). You used words like archaic and embarrassing to describe Finland's situation. Those words simply do not describe the situation properly.

Well maybe Finland doesn’t want to be highlighted as a country with a law that restricts human right., ie. the freedom not to train or serve in the military
