I understand the sentiment but I disagree. While I agree with all of your points here, there is only one thing that the majority of Americans will not vote for, besides a mormon...a gay man. Worse would be a gay woman, but still, here we are. Sadly he will likely never be considered a viable candidate for this reason. It is wrong and stupid and backward and ****ed up, but it is the truth. I have watched a lot of interviews now with him and conservative media and they always seem to have that as an undercurrent in the interview, if not brought up outright. He handles it really well, but NO ONE on the right and a very solid chunk in the middle will not vote for a gay person. Maybe sometime in the next 20 years we break that stigma down enough to get Pete, or someone else, through, but it won't be any time soon.
We will vote for felons and rapists and adulterers, and scam artists, and dementia riddled people.
I think that if people think the country would be better with a candidate then they would vote for that candidate.
I think that Democrats will always vote for the Democrat. Republicans will always vote for the Republican (with a few exceptions). I think Pete could get the vast majority of the independent voters. I bet bucknutz would love to vote for Pete if he were the candidate for example and he is a Republican (I think)
Independent voters look less at the sex/race/whatever of the candidate imo. I think he could win. I'm an optimist though no doubt and that might be another way of saying naive but I still believe in people even after trump.
