What's new

For those of you BYU pukes cheering Jimmer...

Don't worry this will only go on for 3-4 more years before Jimmer loses a spot on a team.

Even I'm not stupid enough to say that this kid doesn't have talent, because IMO he has the ability and the game to be scary good...

I never said the kid sucked... I'm just saying cheer for your team if you're a fan of that team... That's all...

I really wasn't telling anybody what to do, I just think it's a joke... And you're right about the LDS church... It's "Leave your brain at the door" when you walk in those doors...

At least my pastor encourages me to "question" things within my own faith... You do it in a Mormon church, and you will probably find yourself excommunicated... To me, the proof is in the pudding...

BTW, you're dead wrong about questioning things re: your own faith. I question a lot; I'm still a member in good standing. Now I think any time you "break" one of the major commandments (such as adultery, violent crimes, etc.), you'll find any pastor, priest, father or bishop - in whatever religion - calling you to repentance. That is a biblical concept, not one that is unique to the LDS church.

I'm not talking about repentance for sin which is something we all should do... I'm talking about questioning the doctrines of your own church so that "you will not be fooled"... God encourages that and so does a good pastor...

No... Believe it or not, even though my post pretty much slandered the LDS faith, I didn't agree with that either... But those are Utah fans as a whole, you really don't see that from other fans of other teams in other states...

Really? Now I understand Cleveland fans will never cheer for LeBron. But you don't think fans root for players who left their team via an unsolicited trade. Or they don't welcome an uber-popular native son back in the area where he played college basketball? Did you watch the Jazz @ Chicago game the year after we drafted Deron?

Yes, your bias is definitely anti-LDS and I think that's sad. Do you have the same disdain for Notre Dame players? After all, their religion teaches them to respect and follow priests without question. And we all know of the abuse epidemic that rocked that religion. Or how about Jewish players. Do you hold the same disdain for Omri Casspi and Jordan Farmar? Any other religions or belief systems...Muslims? Seventh-Day Adventists? Buddhists?

Sorry, but you're either Jazz fans or you're not...

And any fan in that building cheering when Jimmer does something good that is not a Sacramento Kings fan is NOT a true Jazz fan in my eyes...

I hate this states fans... Half of them are clueless and the other half are worse...

And yes, it is due to the LDS culture... A baseless cult, with a rocky foundation at best...

There I said it...

Deal with it!

I too believe it is bad taste to cheer a player during the game that is not on your team. However, the complexity of a human being is much more dynamic than you make it out to be. Simplicity makes for appeal to emotion which equals power and possibly virulent ideology. Having an educated and reasonable conversation about philosophy or religion is healthy, but not simplifying the human condition.

Again, I ask you which beliefs you cannot question in the LDS Church. I have never been told to ignore my doubts. In fact, I've been encouraged to learn truths from a variety of books and sources and study things out in my mind. Truth is light; the Glory of God is Intelligence. The trick is to determine what "truths" are absolute and which ones are just theories based upon our current levels of understanding (such as when everyone KNEW the earth was flat and the sun revolved around the earth). Now the principle of faith is universal across all Christian religions. Some things we do accept, Do you absolutely know there is a God? Do you know Jesus is your Savior and paid for your sins? I don't. I've never seen or spoken to them. Should I honor my father and mother? Let's go one higher...why not commit adultery if I'm discreet and use protection? Many things - large and small - we accept on faith. Some behavioral standards have been codified into laws in our society; some have not.

Ok, religious debates aside, how bad would a college experience at BYU suck? I mean, that university should be charged with theft. Theft of fun. Theft of being a train wreck. Theft of attempting to beer bong a full liter of Jaegermeister while wearing a bra on your head.

Party night for that student body is taking the 1 hour car ride up the Energy Solutions to cheer for a guy who doesn't even go there anymore.

That sucks.

then why don't you take a look at some books like "mask of mormonism" (christian based) and compare that with one of your own publications such as the "true to the faith" or another such as that... Ask your bishop if that would be okay... I'll bet he'll say "no" due to the fact that you guys are not allowed to read any "anti mormon" literature... If you guys are so sure of your own religion i would think you would welcome these challenges moreso instead of hide behind your book of mormon...

now the principle of faith is universal across all christian religions. Some things we do accept, do you aboslutely know there is a god? yes

do you know jesus is your savior and paid for your sins? Yes

i don't. really??

i've never seen or spoken to them. But i accept those things on faith.

No... You believe that so that it justifies accepting a prophet that really does nothing but lecture and say things like, "i had a vision"... That's why the lds faith believes that...

How dare people go to an event for fun. Know they not the seriousness of the business of fan-ology?

Seriously, they need to get a life. For example, they should be spending their time posting on message boards.
