Senate Democrats running away from Harris in ‘blue wall’ states​

Democrats running for the Senate in “blue wall” states that will be critical to determining the outcome of the 2024 election are running away from Vice President Harris, signaling that they are hoping to win over some of former President Trump’s voters to keep their seats.

And Democratic candidates in those states have been careful about criticizing Trump during the high-stakes debates. They have focused on policy and their own records without taking many — or any — shots against the Republican nominee.

Pennsylvania incumbent Sen. Bob Casey (D) has even embraced Trump’s tariff policies. His campaign launched an ad last week that described him as “independent” and touted how he “bucked” the Biden administration to protect fracking and “sided with Trump to end NAFTA.”

If Trump’s campaign was focused on handing out tax breaks and lowering gas prices, he’d be losing, because for his base, none of that yawn-inducing policy stuff is transgressive enough to be exciting. (Just ask Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, who each in their own way tried to run as a Trump alternative.)

Disagree. Ron DeSantis was beat by the Democrat who pour more money into defeating him during the primaries than they spend supporting their own candidates. The Democrats wanted Trump because they thought they could beat Trump. As for Nikki Haley, Republicans are done with neocons. They can have Liz Cheney. If they want Nikki Haley, they can have her too. I would remind you that Nikki Haley was on the corporate board of Boeing. Anyone having anything to do with that company should be shunned.

Disagree. It won't cost him because people aren't voting for Trump's virtue. They are voting for the job he does. People see the cost of food at the store and they want the job Trump did. People see the wars spiraling out of control and they want the job Trump did.

Can you tell me his policies and what they will do to help? Because you and others seem to have just given up on defending Trump as not a terrible person. And it just keeps coming down to policy policy policy. I have no idea what could make you think Trump is some master of policy who has all the right ideas. I can't fault anything you said there. Trump is a terrible person, and he doesn't talk about his policies in an effective manner.

The two biggest things he can do to combat inflation is to stop the illegal trillion dollar Executive Order giveaways in student loan forgiveness and other vote-buying efforts, in conjunction with fostering good relations with the Sunni Arab states in the Middle East to keep oil prices contained. The Fed almost has the inflation rate back to 2%. I think if Trump can do those two small things, it will be enough to stabilize inflation.

With regards to the widening war, that is where Trump shines. He is an absolute f***er in negotiations. He will flatter. He will threaten. He will stab people. There was an interaction between Putin and Trump early in Trump's Presidency. I forget the details but Trump told Putin to stop what he was doing or he'd "bomb the s**t out of him". Putin didn't blink and flatly retorted "no, you won't." Trump's response to that was a wry smile and "I might" as he turned and walked away. That was the end of the exchange and Putin did not do what Trump had told him not to do. Trump is not a good guy, but sometimes that is what you need. When Trump was in office, some leaders were afraid of him, and the world was a less scary place because of it.

No he can't.
He can only throw out a bunch of hypothetical word salads.

Presidents don't control the price of stuff and the things that trump actually may be able to control (cutting taxes all over the place and placing huge tariffs on everything and deporting millions of low wage workers, though I don't actually think he has the ability to accomplish that one) will only make the prices on things increase according to economic experts and nobel prize winners..... And even AL himself a while back told me that trumps policies will make prices rise in the short term. Al just thought that in the long run things would get better.

It's not about policy. It's about culture wars. It's about fighting the enemy within! It's about fellow Americans needing to be stopped and put in their place.


Remember trumps amazing policies he ran on in 2016? He is gonna make Mexico pay for a border wall. He is going to give a us great new healthcare plan. Ya right.

You are not changing your views based on the facts presented, that Trump really does know everything, that every policy enacted by any republican is always exactly correct and Trump is infallible. Except when challenged, of course, when we have to admit he has a few flaws, but they are all heavily overblown, because Trump has the best handle on things. Except the few things we grudgingly acknowledge might not be perfect, except everything is perfect. And the fact that you rely on reported "fact-checkers" prove you are close-minded and not willing to change your views to match those of the MAGA right. Only if you are willing to change your views to match those can you be viewed as open-minded. Calling her on past remarks of the wall being stupid but now wanting to build it were especially good. "So do you think building the wall is stupid?" LOL.
