The deal to me is the other two picks they own for Sexton Kessler. Whatever contracts are needed to match… or they can bounce. And I’m cool with them bouncing.

Yeah, that's something I'd have to think about, but LAL being the FA destination it is, I wouldn't at all trust them to be really bad once Lebron and AD are gone. They will suck if they are still there, but get injured, though.

They are a destination BUT they wandered in the wilderness for a long time before Lebron blessed them and FA is different now with the extensions. Almost have to trade for the star and if they don't have stuff to trade...

I would bet those picks would be pretty decent or looked at as having good value in a trade down the line. It is a lot to give up.

Can't imagine they have any interest in that. Not only do we have a bunch of young guards and wings to try and develop but there is also a very good chance we could be looking at another wing in the draft that is the best available player.
 
Two full unprotected picks from Lakers is better than the 4-5 “bad” pick packages. As great as Walker has played, he’s not Rudy/Don.

We just traded 3 bad picks for one and everyone cheered (despite being very argumentative before the trade happened). That’s how valuable these more premium picks are.

Nah. Maybe at last year's price but even then Tony indicated we weren't interested at all. If he was still around this summer and we landed Flagg I could see it.

And I get that BUT Walker would be the only rookie scale guy I can think of that would be available and if they wanted to recycle him later they could. He's under full team control. I think it would have to be a Walker and Sexton for like Rui/Vando/Vincent combo to get there but that's what I'd ask. Giving up one of those picks for like Jimmy or some other guy who is winding down you have no opportunity to recycle him later.

I agree in that I don't think they offer it. But they should offer it for this or another deal that could do something similar. AD's prime ends in like 2 years? You have Lebron and AD right now so your window to do something big (conference finals) is now. It just doesn't make much sense for them or the Warriors to kind of run out the clock on those guys. Denver is vulnerable... OKC is a little unproven and may not have the big depth if Chet isn't healthy. Dallas/Minny all look to have taken a step back. There is an opportunity and the Lakers should be able to do something. Maybe they only recover 50% of what they gave when time comes to rebuild... but they would have gotten a lot of value along the way.

The other thing is... based on tone I don't know if we even do that as it seems we are just not interested in selling off Walker. I am good either way honestly. Lakers nibbling with some seconds and other stuff is just kinda weird to me.

We already own most of one of those picks and we would be fortunate to draft a player the quality of Walker with the other. Walker is a coveted archetype and probably top 3 or 4 in the NBA at what he does well. If we get a resource for Kessler, it makes no sense to spend it (or another resource) on a chance at replacing him.
