Credit to Danny Ainge for timing the market perfectly

We gotta give credit where credit is due -- no team has gotten hauls for talent like we got for Mitchell and Gobert. It has forced us into a hard-reset, and we didn't tank properly for two years in a row, but looking at the trades this year it's clear the impact that the CBA has had.

Time will tell how the reset goes -- but the writing was on the wall, and our two stars no longer played well together. Jury is out on whether one should have been kept or not, but that's water under the bridge at this point. Cool to see that we have an FO with foresight.

Doesn’t matter either way he fleeced the Cavs and Minny…
I used to think that way, but the reality is that it doesn’t really matter what Ainge got for Rudy and Don until he successfully uses that treasure trove to create a legit, long term contender. I’m starting to get nervous about his ability to do just that considering some of the head scratching decisions coming from the front office.

Some people think the ultimate goal of NBA basketball is to win games and championships, but Danny knows that winning trades is what really matters.
I'm about to blow your mind.
The Celtics made a trade to acquire a dude named Garnett and another dude name Allen and won a championship.

Then they did tank trades (traded good vets for draft picks) and won another championship on the backs of the dudes they drafted from those tank trades.

A dude named Danny Ainge was involved in the trades.

What you are saying is indeed factual, that doesn't mean it will happen again. I haven't been all that impressed with what he has done with the assets he acquired so far, he has given many away for very little and has actually hurt the value of the draft picks by helping the teams we own the picks of get better. TIME will tell, I certainly hope the Jazz become contenders again but so far I am not jumping for joy.

A poster implied that Ainge thinks winning trades is more important than championships. I was simply pointing out that sometimes winning trades is literally what brings championships. And that Ainge has experience in the matter.

Credit Ainge for capitalizing and trading Sexton, and Collins at the deadline.

Oh, wait..
You mean you think Ainge should have traded good players at the worst possible time when market value for players appears to be at an all time low?

This thread is about being smart with trades.

But what if by not trading them we’re too good to land bottom 3 this year and miss out on Flagg?

Is the opportunity cost worth it?

What if we traded them for nothing and missed out on Flagg though?
I think that its always a good idea to get value for good young players. If we were talking about 35 year old mike conley or 33 year old clarkson then sure. Add in the fact that we had those guys all year so far and currently have the best possible odds to get Flagg anyway.

Of course if we sit all of them down the stretch then yes by all means keep them.

All eyes on Ainge as to what he’ll do.

Only time will tell I guess.

Yep. Look at how we have drafted the last 9-10 years. It’s laughably bad. Like possibly bottom five in the league bad.

We didn’t draft Mitchell or Gobert. We traded for them on draft night…so go take a look. I don’t have a ton of trust in the FO to get the draft right at this point based on their resumé over the last decade.
