Hendricks and Filipowski

Next season two rather similar players, Hendricks and Filipowski, will suit up for the Jazz. They are the same age (born within two weeks of each other), with the same one year of the NBA experience. Filipowski is a bit taller but Hendricks has a longer wingspan and their standing reach is identical. Both of them seem to be best suited to play at 4, although Filipowski can also play at 5 against certain matchups.

Can Taylor and Kyle coexist? Can they play together in the same lineup? Is Taylor better suited to play with Kessler? I think that the Jazz will have to look long and hard at their fit and decide if there is a place for both of them. And if Utah somehow gets Flagg it almost guarantees that one of them will be gone: there would be simply too many good players capable of playing PF: Lauri, Flagg, Collins, Hendricks, Filipowski...

It would be interesting to watch their battle for minutes in November.

They both still have a lot of prove but Taylor has never had a monster game like Flip has already. Taylor had A LOT of cody williams moments.

but, I do know we can't take more than 1 more year of players that play 0 defense.... and we have loads of players that do 0 defense. There will definitely be a lot less of those 0 defense players at the end of next season for sure

Not sure what you mean by "similar" other than size and can hit a jump shot. To me, I'm hoping they can complement each other (as perhaps bigs off the bench). Filipowski definitely needs a rim protector in the lineup with him, and I want to see what he and Hendricks can do together.

Shooting threes is a requirement for all players at 1 through 4 and soon will be a requirement for all centers as well. Wemby drafted in 2024 shoots 3s non-stop (looking at Embiid and Jokic) , all notable centers drafted in 2024 -Edey, Klingan, Sarr, Kel'el War - also shoot 3s. That is why Kessler is so desperate to develop a three-pointer: Walter is afraid that in 5 years he will become a non-shooting dinosaur prime for extinction.

Hendricks will become extension-eligible in a year. I know it is somewhat unfair due to his injury but the Jazz will have to decide if they keep him long-term or trade while he still has value based on his play next season. If he has a slow start or another injury his future with the Jazz will be very much in danger.

I'm guessing you are being a little hyperbolic, but I don't think we are that close to non shooting 5s being dinosaurs. We are at the point where all players on the floor need to be accounted for on offense, but that doesn't necessarily mean everyone has to shoot 3s. The most important attribute for 5s continues to be the ability to protect the rim, and spaced floors make that ability more important than ever.

That's because you are looking at the centers playing today. But almost all young centers entering the NBA are either solid or developing shooters and it will continue. In 5 years 80% of the starting centers will be able to shoot open trees and guys like Kessler will be at a distinct disadvantage. The non-shooting centers will be pushed to the bench or would have to be amazing in everything else to start.

Eh, fits something you look for when you are good. Jazz aren't building a team they're just existing until they fill out a couple all star potential players in rookie spots or have some amazing deal thrown in their laps. When that happens and they switch back to win mode, there will be a lot of trades. I kinda think looking at any individual player on the team right now, its more likely than not that they won't be on the team when we are good again. 'swat makes it tough for me to watch right now.

I don't think all of Hendricks, Markkanen, Filipowski, (knock on wood) Flagg, and Kessler will be on the team next year just cause we're probably going to trade some guys in the offseason. It'll be another tank year, so if we keep Markkanen, he probably only plays in half the games again anyway. That said, I think the Jazz would have absolutely no problem running a combination of those guys in a 3/4/5 rotation next year.

Ummmm not similar at all other then both can shoot from outside lol. I also don’t see why we need to choose one or the other? Flip can play the 4&5, Hendricks can play the 3&4 positions they can coexist no problem.
