Game Thread NBA Draft Lottery - May 12, 2025

Added to Calendar: 05-12-25

I find it fascinating that the rational and sane among us who are skeptical of conspiracy theories feel compelled to offer evidence as to their bogusness. Those peddling conspiracies have the burden of proof. Innuendo and lazy, sloppy post hoc ergo propter hoc reasoning do not constitute proof. If you believe there was a conspiracy to rig the lottery, offer solid, objectively verifiable evidence. For the rest of us, don't succumb to the felt need to ague against that which doesn't merit the effort of refuting. First, you won't convince them; conspiracy mongers are not rational nor persuaded by evidence, or the lack thereof. Second (and related to the first), it's a complete waste of your time. Get an iced hazelnut latte and read a good book instead. Or anything else other than trying to reason with the unreasonable.

Light summer reading
I'm reading I Claudius, or trying to. I find it a slog to read but I'm determined to finish it. The story moves slowly amidst stream of consciousness ramblings. However, taking frequent breaks to read up on events described therein has proved to be very fruitful to learn about the early Imperial Roman period.

I’ll have to give it a read.

Will there be any changes in the draft order?
1-Cooper Flagg
2-Dylan Harper
3-Ace Bailey
4-VJ Edgecomb
5-Tre Jones
With only the 5th pick, are we supposed to be satisfied with Tre Jones? Are there no other options? If Ace or VJ comes down to the 5th pick, can we just say thank you and pick him?

I think it’s
1 - Flagg

2 - Harper

3/4/5 - Eye of the beholder between Bailey, Edgecombe and Johnson. Definitely think those 3 guys are solidly in that third tier though.

One of the three is sure to be a top 5 pick, so we can just pick that one without thinking about anything else, right?

I think each team will have their preferred order of players, but yeah. . . I think it’s safe to pick whichever one you have left on your board at that point.

Sorry to revive this, just now was able to get my account re-activated.
Here's something I haven't been able to get an answer to: Why are lottery combinations handed out to teams in order of worst record when the winning lottery combination is random? This year the winning combination had 3 (if I'm remembering correctly) 2 digit numbers. The teams with the worst record have no chance at these combinations. Why don't teams get a random collection of combinations?

My understanding is each team is issued a certain amount of numbered combos. Like Utah gets 100 numbers along with the other next 3 teams. Then the next team gets 90 and so forth.
