Utah Jazz Select Walter Clayton Jr, Pick 18 (Trade)

I had both Traore and Kas rated higher, but I’m still a fan of the pick. I think he’ll be a solid role player on a competitive team. I prefer length and upside at this point. . . but he definitely has a bankable skill set to work with. And while he’s an older draft prospect, I don’t think 22 is “OLD” for a guard. Still see lots up upside for him. He’s a bit of a Dawg and we can use more of those guys.
I agree Clayton seems to have a very high BBIQ and will figure out very quickly what he has to do to stay on the floor with his size
It seems like that is what most of Jazz players lack A decent BBIQ

When I see WCJ I just think Wendell Carter Jr. Going to have to get used to that lol.

I love how easy of a ball he shoots. That’s one of my main 30 second first impression “scouting” things I look at. One of the reasons I really liked Mitchell in 2017

I am a big fan of WCJ. He WAS the reason they won the championship. I just HATE the fact that the Jazz draft 2 players that do not want to be here. That scares me the most. Are they going to play well until they get their second contract and thrn want out?

Are the Jazz going to be the developmental team for the rest of the NBA?

Clayton doesnt want to be here? Where have you seen that? Honest question.

The look on his face a d his reactions after the pick. He wanted to go to Miami and was pissed.

He grew up in Florida and went to high school in Florida. Other then his time in Iona he went back to Florida to finish his college career. Most people figured he was going to be drafted by the Heat. (Maybe a guarantee but who knows)

I dont think he was too excited about the Jazz drafting him.

IMO, and this really isn't that bold when one considers Clayton was a 1st team all-american, MVP of the NCAA tournament/final four, etc, Clayton IS currently the best player in the draft outside of Flagg. now, he's older and there are guys who WILL probably be better than him at some point, but as of today, I think he's the second best player in the entire draft. not who i would have taken, even at 21, so i definitely wouldn't have given up as much as the Jazz gave up to move up to 18, but he's a fun pick.

These kids will probably get over it. Experience will teach them that the Jazz aren't a dysfunctional org; and they'll definitely see some dysfunctional orgs.

If the Jazz only draft guys who WANT to be in Utah, they’d have to fold up the team and leave for Vegas. Quite a few guys who don’t want to be in Utah actually come to love it here. Just trust your board and expect them to be professionals.

People keep commenting on the “trade up” aspect of this pick, and I don’t get the hesitation. The team basically turned Eubanks and Mills into 5 second round picks out of thin air. Giving up 3 second round picks to “go get their guy” seems like a bargain. They clearly wanted him, valued him and decided that giving away a couple of 2nd round picks was well worth it. I wish they’d be more decisive like this in other transactions. They made sure to go get their target. I love that philosophy.

Yes and no. I guess looking at Mitchell he was so pumped to come to Utah but then wanted out. I think anything is possible.

I just worry about the mental make up of Ace. He has the potential to become a cancer. He has what I call a type A personality. The A stand for bullocks. He is so look at me. I worry. Of course I worry all the time maybe that is why I am so depressed and anxious all the time and in therapy.

*shrugs shoulders and whisper under my breath "let them".

I think it’s well worth the risk. To me, I can see shades of PG and Butler in how he competes. I don’t love some of his decisions, but he’s clearly got offensive hub potential.

I would’ve been happy with either VJ or Tre, but the absolute best outcome in this draft would’ve been getting one of Flagg, Harper or Bailey. Jazz did that. Hopefully he maxes out his potential, because that player is a franchise changing superstar.

I would agree with the talent. I dont hate the pick. I guess I am just a negative Nelly.

Well knock it off.

Jazz made out like bandits. He might bust (there’s always a chance) but it was the right pick. The future is brighter than it was 24 hours ago.
The good news, maybe great news, is wvery time the Jazz draft someone i do not like or not a fan of they become very good players. So maybe there is hope.

i don't disagree with you at all. if that's who the jazz wanted, i have no problem with the trade up and what they gave up. just saying that as somebody who wouldn't even have taken him at 21, of course i wouldn't give up anything, no matter how minor, to move up to take him.
all that said, to be very clear - i love the pick and i love that they traded up to get him.
