What's new

If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life - What would it be?

Ooohh thats a tough one. Admittedly I dont like re-watching movies more than once or twice. The blu-rays I bought - Predator, Big Trouble in Little China, American Psycho are all some of my favorites but gather dust for the most part.

Guess I'll go with a Edgar Wright movie, and you may think Shaun of the Dead because it's his best movie but I'll say Hot Fuzz because its to me is really great for a rewatch. Its a movie that frankly has no business being as good as it should be but features some really clever filmmaking that I appreciate.

First time I saw it was in the theater, I walked out and looked around and wondered if everything was fake. It definitely took you in, in a way that a sequel, no matter how good it was (and they were... ok) could match. I liked Animatrix, too.
Agreed with the animatrix too. I bought some limited edition boxes set with all the movies and the animated movies and behind the scenes stuff and found myself going back to the animatrix nearly as much as the original.

I go back and forth between BB or TDK being the best…I love the tone and mood to BB much better. It’s a better story imo. And it’s more rewatchable for me. I’ve tried rewatching TDK but it just doesn’t have the same wow lighting in a bottle feel it had the first couple viewings with Ledger. The last 35-40 minutes are really pretty bad. The scenes with the two boats and any scene with Two Face. Just some really bad writing by Nolan’s brother Jonathan who I think wrote the script. BB would blow it away in fact if it simply had a great villian. The problem is Scarecrow and even RAG the way he’s used isn’t as terrifying as it could’ve been. Hell, my favorite villain was the two or three minutes with the gangster played by Wilkinson. Dude crushes that scene at the restaurant/bar.
Agree with all this. They definitely tried too hard to cram so much into TDK. They could have built up Harvey Dent and used the ending of TDK to set him up as a new villain who I think could have been way better than Bane, and that would have made both movies better. I think they tried to do too much for villains in all 3. But especially in TDK, where you had literally the perfect movie, and especially Batman, villain already but they had to water it down with two face and just muddy things too much.

That line "a movie that has no business being as good as it is" pretty much sums up Edgar Wright's career, doesn't it? Shaun, Hot Fuzz, World's FREAKING End, Baby Driver... All should have been lightweight fare, but they're some of the best movies of their type ever made.

World's End, while it doesn't get much love from people, is awesome. Fight scenes that shouldn't be so entertaining, probably the best acting from Pegg and Frost (I love how their dynamic is turned around from the first 2 movies), a great concept and story... Is it the weakest of the Cornetto trilogy? Probably. But it's still great.

I agree. Having a different director trying to make the same movie I could see it falling flat. He certainly elevates the source material. I also like the Worlds End mostly cause its fun to hang out with Simon Peggs character while still seeing his flaws.

Baby Driver, tho. Man. What a movie. I can even get over the Kevin Spacey casting, and the weird character and plot points, just because it's so pretty. Here, if you haven't seen it, watch the opening scene.

If they had an Oscar for stunt coordinator (They're adding the stunt categories in 2028, I believe) this would have been nominated.
