Walter Clayton Jr. Hype Thread

Frankly this is long overdue.

I am over the freaking moon about this 2025 draft. Airious "Ace" Bailey is the goods and Walt is the big-balls-pure-shooting-alpha-dog lead guard that this franchise desperately needs. There's a reason the Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors - maybe the two best franchises in the NBA - wanted to trade up for this kid.

Don't sweat that he's 22 and "only 6'2 without shoes." Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the would-be love child of Jalen Brunson and Steph Curry.

He's just an easy fit into the team. He can shoot and his defense seems at least passable.

I still think Keyonte gets another shot at starting if he's shown some serious improvement, but I think WCJ ends up with the job.

I'm curious to see how much run they get at the same time. WCJ can play off the ball. Just such a small duo defensively.

Listening to the Chris Vernon Mismatch podcast and he has the story about this interaction with a fan he named "Target Guy" who told him the Grizzlies should draft Coward.

He then reunited with Target Guy in Vegas for his YouTube show (the Chris Vernon show). Target Guy says Cowards floor is Michael Jordan then reveals his draft board and the #1 player on his board was Walter Clayton and he said WCJ is better than Brunson now

I have to wait and see on Walter Clayton. He's looked good in summer league. He's a really good shooter and a shooter off of movement. His defensive instincts and timing are really good, but the question is how much of it will translate when he's the smallest player on the floor. Those shooting windows could be tight.

Fantastic college player, but so were Reed Sheppard, Malik Monk and Payton Pritchard. Hopefully, Walt has a real impact at the next level.

I think WCJ is a bit more natural as a point guard than Keyonte. He makes decisions a bit quicker and is looking to attack more consistently. I still see Keyonte as a combo-guard, like a Spencer Dinwiddie, Reggie Jackson and the like. Keyonte *can* play point guard, but it's not ideal for a playoff-competitive team. It looks like WCJ is starting to learn what he can and can't do at the NBA level, and he's starting to adjust a bit.

I feel like in these first two games keyontes leadership, vision, passing, and unselfishness have been fantastic.
Hopefully the improvement in those areas continues to grow all season.

That's interesting how different people can come up with very different impressions after watching the same games. To me Keyonte looked much more PG-ish in his two preseason games. I think he reaslly progressed in this department and now is capable to make quite a variety of passes and reads. WCJ showed that he can score but I am still waiting to see his actual ability to run the team. Of course, it was just two games but expected a bit more from a 22-year old PG with 4 years of college experience.

Also, Key looks to be more explosive and taller. I am actually starting to believe that he may become a serviceable PG in a couple of years.
