What's new

Game Thread Oct 10, 2025 06:00PM MT: Utah Jazz @ San Antonio Spurs (Preseason)

Added to Calendar: 10-10-25

I'm impressed how good Ace is shooting during the preseason games. I hope it continues during the new season. His minutes should stay the same too. I actually don't want any obstacles block his way from improvement, such as other players or management/coaches. Let him eat and stay outta his way.

It's really difficult to evaluate what's going on when Wemby is playing. He's just effects the game so uniquely. Then for the majority of the second half we were playing against non rotation players, so again difficult to evaluate what's going on.

I don't really think we have an idea what we will look like until Kessler comes back. I'm starting to believe that we aren't the worst team in the league though. If we weren't in the Western conference that top 5 pick might be in Jeopardy. . .

And what inspired such change in your opinion? The fact that we decisively lost 2 preseason games, including this overtime where our prized rookie and the players who will be playing heavy minutes (Keyonte, Brice) lost to the end-of-the bench and two-way Spurs players?

Don't worry, we are pretty awful.

Yeah, but Washington and Charlotte could easily be worse, Brooklyn is definitely worse, and we still haven't seen out two best players.

Every single one of our youngsters has made considerable progress. The worst record depended on us giving developmental minutes to players that weren't ready. I'm not sure we have a lot of that unless we sit young players for other young players who are playing worse. Kessler sure isn't going to sit out with Tankitis this year.

I don't think we lose our pick, but I think we will need a lot of luck for a top 3 pick.

Watching Brice get cooked on an island vs a G-Leaguer was eye opening as to why he isn't being fully trusted as a starter. The guy is just lunch meat in space vs anyone who has any kind of wiggle to their game. Also grabbed zero rebounds. Him and Taylor have to be way better on the defensive glass. So many rebounds were let go in the midrange area because our wings arent moving to grab rebounds. Walker will cure a lot of that as a dominant in area rebounder, but those guys still need to work on that end

Glad Cody looked more aggressive in looking for his shot. I do hate his mid-range game though. Ace vs Cody mid-range is like the flirting vs harassment meme. He just has too much defensive size to fully give up on imo. Pick up the 3rd year option.

Im still high on Clayton. He obviously has some issues getting his shot off vs NBA length, but I think he figures it out. He showed off some nice finishing. He just has to be more shot ready in the windows he gets, but I think he figures it out. The two hand poster was surprising. Also had nice finishes in transition on layups. Don't think he is another Burke who is too small/unathletic to make it work.

Ace continues to look great. The bitching from fans about the Jazz not using him enough will be annoying. He's being used perfectly. You don't want to give him too much too early just because he looks good. They are building him up slowly which is a good thing. Yes, I want to see him get the ball all the time to, but that isn't great for habit forming with some of Ace's natural bad tendencies.

Still have no idea why Svi is playing over Harkless. Our defense sucks, let's play our best POA defender.

Hendricks still looked solid. I don't want to be too harsh on him given first year back off a brutal injury, but I just wish he was more active off ball as a rebounder/havoc wreaker

Agreed completely about Ace. His shot diet over these last two games has been perfect.

Bros, I only saw the second half because I was at the elementary school helping with a halloween event and got home after halftime but wow what a fun game. That lineup that played pretty much the whole 4th quarter and into overtime was basically the "future lineup" and was a total blast to watch play. Super small with Hendricks at the 5, Bailey/Brice at the 4, Bailey/Brice at the 3, Key and Clayton at the 1/2. They all played anywhere from solid to amazing and they played well together.

Hendricks got a little tired and had to come out but he was playing great.
Clayton looked like a vet out there.
Bailey again looking like a future perennial all star
Sensabaugh led the team in scoring (12-12 from the line!)
Keyonte had some struggles but I feel like he has taken on a leadership role and is doing great at it. He is the most vocal player on the court. And even with his struggles he hits the clutch extremely tough 3 to send the game to overtime and nearly had a triple double (9 rebounds, 8 assists, 12 points) He seems like he is really focused on being a pass first PG as well which is nice. Making really nice passes all game long in both games and passing up some shots that he would have normally taken in the past.

Oh and Cody was a big part of the end of the game as well and looked quite good. He led the team in plus/minus (by a mile. +23. Next best was clayton with a +9) and looked really good defensively and looked fine on offense as well. There is still hope for him guys.

That second half was about as fun of a watch as I have had in the last few years. Its looking like many of our recent draft picks are going to be a big part of the future of this team and will likely pan out.

I know, I know, the spurs weren't playing wemby or harper in the second half and our guys were going against mostly scrubs but we weren't playing Lauri or Kessler for the entire game either. And its just preseason but man that was awesome to watch.

It’s crazy he’s got years of development left and how much progress he made from year 1 to now.
I think a big part of that progress is the work he has done on his fitness. Imagine how good luka and zion could be if they had similar transformations physically. Love to see the work ethic.

I'm not sure why the Jazz have a reputation for being a "good development program" when we've seen roughly none of that in the post Quin Snyder era.
I feel like im literally seeing it in these preseason games.

Since when a long two early in the clock became a good play to close the game?
You take it early in the clock so that if you miss you can extend the game and have another chance. Which ended up working when we watched key hit the 3 to send to overtime.
I didn't like the shot a ton (dont like long twos like you said) but it was pretty uncontested at least. Just a little short.

Thats insane Ace didnt get a whistle there
I think he was fouled but not rewarded with the foul because he was out of control.

If wemby can avoid injury/health issues then I feel its inevitable that he is the best player in the league for a minimum of a few years and maybe has a lebron like streak of being the best player in the league. Spurs are too lucky in the lottery. **** em.
At least they are a small market I guess.
Wemby will almost certainly be DPOY a record number of time if he stays healthy.

Also, it was nice to see Hendricks get to the line 7 times and make them all. If that holds up, he's right on schedule, even if that 3 isn't always falling.
Have been really pleased with his expansion of his offensive game. A few posts ups, attacking closeouts on the drive and finishing, had a nifty play last night schooling the defender in the paint on the baseline going under the hoop and finishing on the other side, cutting and receiving the pass and taking a dribble and then exploding for a dunk (should have been a 3 point play too as he was 100% hacked on the arm), got an offensive rebound and powered through the defender for a finish.
He might be much more than just 3 and D like we all thought.
