It sounds like the guys that are out tonight may not play until the regular season starts if I understood Andy today.

De'Aaron Fox, Steph Castle, Jeremy Sochan and Kelly Olynyk are reportedly out for tonight's game. Spurs will have Dylan Harper, Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Harrison Barnes, and Victor Wembanyama. The other rookie to watch is Carter Bryant. Former Jazzman Micah Potter is currently on their roster.

No word on the Jazz starters, but assume it's Keyonte, Ace, Taylor and Nurkic again, along with one of Brice, Cody or Svi.

I honestly cannot see any rationale for starting Svi. He doesn't fit in with the starters, or anyone else really.

(Maybe) Svi is the place holder for Lauri so that the Jazz don't have to rejigger their rotations. If Lauri plays, Svi doesn't. 2nd team remains intact.

The Jazz lineups change and overlap enough that there isn't a true 2nd unit right now. I'd understand playing a few 2 and 3-man combinations that work well, but I don't see how Svi works well with anyone.

Can't argue against this at this point. But it seems to me that Svi played something of this Lauri-place-holder role last year, so I thought that maybe that's what's going on again here in the pre-season.
