Cam Boozers game is kind of weird and I couldn’t put my finger on it but now I think I can and that is: ugly. In a way it reminds me of LeBron that his drives aren’t elegant but a lot of strength getting to the hole. I think the question is, will he be quick enough against athletic bigs in the nba. I think his game is diverse enough that he’ll be ok.

You could talk me into any one of 4 guys at #1 this year. Boozer and Wilson have been remarkable.

I think the bottom 5 may be unstoppable in the tank race this year but I really do hope we put ourselves in that mix. These guys all look like franchise cornerstones at this point.

I think Peterson and Booz are in their own tier. Nice to see Booz dominate some some better competition.

I don’t see a good reason to have AJ in a tier with them instead of a tier with Wilson besides preseason hype

Boozer plays exactly like if KAT was 70% as physically gifted but was also way smarter.

And that ends up looking extremely ugly.
More or less, yeah.

I don't mind ugly if you're effective. The trouble is, I don't see Boozer being effective in the NBA, not to the extent people are hoping. He'll be undersized, and if you're undersized in the League, you have to be very athletic and/or quick. Boozer is slow, clunky and groundbound even for the college level. He can bully college kids in the post, but the NBA is a different world.

Yes, he's crafty and smart and can put the ball in the basket with the best of 'em, but Luka Garza was all those things in college too. And Garza is bigger. Yet he's an 8th/9th man in the NBA.

I fear there's more than a little "pedigree" in the Boozer hype too. His dad played his best ball in an era where you could still be an undersized post bully + midrange jump shooter and find success in the league, but those days are gone.

He’s 18 and the best player in college basketball. That’s not pedigree hype lol.

From Carlos Boozer nonetheless lol

College basketball is terrible. It doesn't matter what Boozer does in the NCAA. What matters is doing those same things in the NBA.

Yes there are always unknowns, but this kid won't suddenly get rid of his slow tree-trunk legs and hard hands when he gets to the League. Or grow 3 more inches.

You’re right, nothing matters in college basketball. You can’t say anything about college basketball players playing college basketball because it’s meaningless. You can gain nothing from watching college players play basketball.

Shut down the thread.

For me personally I feel more comfortable putting Wilson up a tier than taking anyone down a tier. Peterson hasn't really had a chance to do anything to separate himself. AJ could easily have a 30+ game soon and people would be taking about him as a #1 pick. Boozer was just recently talked about as a guy who couldn't play well against good teams and with one good game he's him. It's too fluid currently for my liking. I'll wait for more stuff to play out.

Carlos must be jealous of his sons’ hair. Or tell them to enjoy it while it lasts.

Fair enough. I guess my starting point on all these guys is mostly what I hear/read about them. Peterson had a lot of hype and for me he delivered on that. Don’t see a reason to change my opinion about him (which isn’t a very strong one tbf). Same goes for Booz, though he’s had some ups and downs.

AJ, otoh, is not as good as I expected. I had an impression of him that he’d be further along shooting. So I don’t feel good keeping him up there with Pete or Booz. I already had AJ third.

If I knew nothing before the year, I’d have Wilson ahead of AJ right now. But this early in the preseason prior is still a big factor for me.

Makes sense, and just to be clear I wasn't saying you were wrong, just stating how I'm currently thinking about things.

I watched a total of 4 high school games of Peterson and saw him shoot his team out of a few games, so my opinion of him was lower than consensus coming in to the season. I like what I've seen so far at Kansas, but he hasn't played enough to separate yet.
