Keyonte George’s Star Ascension

Do you ever consider the possibility that an eye test may be biased or imperfect?
please don't try to pretend like the data tables on defense metrics or the calculations of individual defensive impact aren't without some obvious framework. And please don't pretend like your interpretation of any of this stuff isn't impacted by your priors. You seem to be reserving the "unbiased" and "perfect" for yourself.

Oh wait. This is all perfectly to-script.

Carry on.

EDIT:
@Handlogten's Heros—aka JFC daddy—is also unbiased and perfect in KqWIN's eyes.

Sorry for missing this detail.

ok carry on

You be gotta stop making fan fiction. You must be a very young person, but it’s really weird to be doing this on a basketball forum.

Never did I say the stats were perfect.

Watching more basketball with your eyes does not change the results. It’s not really about “advanced stats”, it’s whether or not stopping the other team from scoring matters or not.

And for anyone out there who wants to change my words….no this does not mean stats or perfect or eye test doesn’t have any value. I just don’t understand the value in ignoring useful info.

what's the most useful info or data on defense and defensive impact? Are you doing these analyses yourself? If so, what stats package(s) have you purchased? If not, who is doing them and do you support his/her methods?

If you understand the basics of per passion numbers and things like plus minus, APM is a great place to start. I wasn’t able to convince you that a floater is bad shot, so clearly I’m not the one to teach. But there is a wealth of information on the topic out there!

APM and its derivatives are not perfect, and I certainly don’t always agree with it, but it is the basis for modern analytics and always worth considering. A team’s performance with a player on the court relative to the 9 players on the court will never not be important. I would never advocate to follow it blindly, but completely ignoring because “eye test” doesn’t seem right.

It's always crazy to me when people who watch close to every Jazz game get so worked up about the advanced stats that show Key as the worst defender when the simple eye test tells us there are a number of worse defenders playing for the Jazz.
Proponents of the eye test will know that Keyonte always looked like a smooth offensive player. I can't tell you i expected 24/7/4 in season 3 (was moreso hoping for like 20/7/4 by year 4) but the game always looked effortless for him. I never got the Trey Burke comparisons *at all* -- completely different levels of comfort on the court between the two.

I feel the same way with Bailey. Eye test shows that he's got 'it', as hard as that it to define.

Not seeing itwith Collier, or Flip. With Brice it's hard to say. Cody has only showed 'it' for the first time in his NBA career in these last couple weeks.
