This.Sorry, but this is a pet peeve of mine. That is such a myth. When the Jazz had good rookies, Sloan played them. Sometimes he played them A LOT (Kirilenko and Deron, for example). It's just that consistently making the playoffs caused the Jazz to so often have rookies that were terrible.
There would be a lot less jack potting going on. Here are the changes I think Jerry would make if he were coaching.
*No way he lets Hayward sit outside and continually miss 3's. He would have CJ in that spot.
*CJ would have played better this year under Jerry. He felt more confident under Jerry.
*Jerry would probably play Hayward at the 2.
*We would have won the first Laker game. He would have called time out and set up a good play.
*Devin Harris would probably have played better under Jerry. The offense would have been more disciplined.
*Jerry would rather call John Deere the devil than change the defense.
IMO one big difference is Jerry valued possessions much more than Ty does. Jerry stressed running through our offensive sets virtually every single possession with the exception of transition opportunities. If a player broke away and did something stupid Jerry would let them know about it - if not bench them...players like Greg Foster, Gordan Giricek, and DeShawn Stevenson come to mind (oh and of course Deron I guess but let's not go there). Ty gives his players more freedom to go 1-on-1 if they think the opportunity is there - and as a result you see a little more standing and watching.Jerry would have had a ****fit last night even though we put up a lot of points. There were SEVERAL instances when players just ran down the court and stopped in a spot, sort of lazily waiting for the offense to begin. I'm still a full-on supporter of the idea that your wings should run through the baseline. Constant motion, hard screens set early in the clock. We're not doing this. Frustrating.
