I don't want Jeremy Evans in the dunk contest!

Sure, it's great to have Jazz players doing cool things so we can say 'look at how cool we are', but if we want to be able to afford Jeremy Evans when he becomes a free agent, the kid shouldn't play in the dunk contest.

Selfish? Yeah. Still true (ish)

Even when he doesn't win (come on, he's not the popular player), he will still be over-hyped because of his involvement in the game, and other teams (Portland) will say 'hey, the Jazz always find the diamonds in the rough, let's throw 5 mil per for 3 at him and steal him away. Sure, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot, (Wes is great, but he's still not worth his contract IMO) but we still lose a good young player with a great team attitude.

The only good thing about him going would be that other players would see that Jazz as a place that can make them into 'kinda stars, but that isn't enough, so I say NO.

I'd rather have him earn a contract by actually playing. If him being in the dunk contest earns him a big offer, good for him and best wishes with that team.

Thread makes me want to throw up in my mouth.

If Evans participating or winning the dunk competition will help him earn a larger contract, good for him.

or he could become trade bait filler that seals a good deal for Utah.

Sorry, I think Evans is a cool player to have at the end of your bench.

But I think the bench is where he'll spend most of his career

Evans isn't good, I think most GMs know that. He's good for 4 points a night on 2 ally-oops, thats about it. Him being in the dunk contest won't help.

If jumping over the Hood of a car gets you a big contract, good for you. The dunk contest is worse than a reality show.

I want J. Evans in the contest because I really think that he could be the best dunker in the NBA.

Of course, Blake or Lebron would win the contest no doubt.

I'd rather keep believing operation repo is real.

You guys aren't letting a re-thread die well

Good points though, good for him if he can gain some confidence by participating, it may be the push he needs to really succeed.

i think he is getting better at the little things in the game, defense, positioning, and I know he can hit a twelve footer if he's left wide open, I've seen him do it. Remember though, that even though he's only a sophmore in the NBA, he's about the same age as CJ, (read: age wise not that young) and that he doesn't have a lot of time before he's supposed to be in his prime. Can he take a step forward? Maybe. I just don't know if it'll be on the Jazz because someone is going to be interested in the "best dunker in the NBA" (rolling my eyes)

BTW, Matt Harpring has got to stop labeling players as the 'best at -this- in the NBA. Earl is not the best lob thrower, Evans is not the best dunker, he even called Paul Millsap the best defensive 4 in the league, which is funny remembering that people wanted to trade him because he was too undersized to be an effective defender. What's wrong with 'good lob thrower' or 'great dunker'? And I'm glad Millsap is doing better defending than before, but he isn't a lock down defender by any stretch.

Yeah, he's excited, but the NBA has a lot of really good players, and to truly be the best at something puts a player in the superstar category, which none of these players are.

So would you say Matt is the best announcer in the NBA at hyperbole?
As a player Harpring was undoubtedly the best at MLA's. That is undisputed!

I WANT him to participate even if has no chance at winning...
From all reports, Evans is a great kid & I remember in an interview w/ Locke that the big purchases w/ his NBA money he got was a car (Hyundai??) for his mom and BRACES for himself!!
I want this kid to get as much exposure he can get to make money cause his NBA career can be over in just a year or two.

1) Evans is chosen for the dunk contest 2) Evans wins the dunk contest 3) We trade Evans for LeBron, Bosh & Wade 4) We build a time machine, set it to the late-90s and crush MJ 5) We buy a keg of beer 6) The peasants rejoice

It's a shame that Wes and Paul's amazing dunk contest got them to make Portland throw money at them.
