Who is the better Overal player?

Both have their individual strengths and weaknesses, but if I was the jazz, I'd trade al, and keep Sap. Which is a little heartbreaking, cuz I really love Al

Jefferson is more consistent but with both on their best game Paul is better. Let's see what they do in the playoffs.

Pretty hard choice.

For the money clearly Sap is better, but if this is disregarding salary it's a hard question.

Sap is more versatile. He can be a 2nd option or 3rd option and be effective. Jefferson is learning to do that and he is getting better. Plus his clutchness really helps.

Jefferson draws double teams and frees his teammates up for shots. Lately he has learned to pass more quickly, so that really expands his game.

I wish there was an equal choice. I would probably give the slight edge to Paul for the clutch factor.

I put it like this who would be better al and favors or favors and millsap. I think favors d makes up for Al's lack but favors offense doesn't make up for millsaps lack of a post game. It is a very tough call.

I agree with this. Jefferson to me is the superior player. More reliable. Much better offensive player. They are about equal defensively. If 2 players are close then you go with the bigger guy. Millsap is better for the money. If we could re-sign Millsap at the same amount he is making this year I would chose to keep Millsap. But he is going to get big money with his next contract and I don't think an undersized PF can be a main man to get a championship. Jefferson has been passing much better and the offense does not stop when he gets the ball all that often anymore. Favors has the skills to replace either of these guys so to me Millsap is the odd man out.

Lol @ Millsap and Al being the same defensively.

If you look at one specific skillset - scoring the basketball in the paint with your back to the basket - Al is clearly the superior player.

That said, Sap is much more versatile, and when you have two promising bigs such as Favors and Kanter - Millsap gives you alot more flexibility because all 3 combinations of Favors/Kanter/Millsap work together. Furthermore, if you're planning on trading one this offseason, the vast difference salary makes the decision even easier in my opinion.

They can be at times. Sap has a tendency to fade on defense at times. Al plays decent post D, where Sap gets eaten alive. Pick n' roll D is obviously advantage Sap, major disadvantage Al.

I think the thread means without salary implications.

Al Jeff has better size and probably a little more polished on the offensive block. He is the focal point of the offense so he gets more shots and thus scores more. Better rebounder statistically that Sap.

Sap is more versatile. He can score more effectively facing up and hitting jumper and has a little better range. Smaller that Jeff. Better defender and passer. Not as selfish.

I'd probably still take Sap if they were both making 10M/year. But it's close.

Millsap is clearly the superior defender. His weakness is size which can overwhelm him and when he picks up a quick foul or two you'll see his aggressiveness wane. He also has what I call the "Harping trait" of sagging back in the paint when he's guarding quality 3-point shooters (in the Lakers game last Sunday Millsap actually made a huge mistake running to the paint and was late to show out on Kobe's potential game-tying 3-pointer) but he's clearly an above-average help defender and can competently defend screen-roll - two things which Al noteably struggles with.
