Jazz notify Wesley Matthews they will NOT match

This is very reassuring. Matching Sap made sense at the very least because he was proven as one of the best backups in the league at his position, and a big man which you always pay more for. Worst case, he's only a backup and you slightly overpay on the backend for that. With Wes, you're drastically overpaying a guy who isn't proven at a position where there are always bargains. For KOC to have made both these choices signifies he isn't emotional in the process which is the right way to be.

Good luck to Wes, and I sincerely hope he makes us regret it. He's one of the good guys, I'll root for him, but this was the right decision for the Jazz whether he makes us regret it or not.

Have a great year Wes, you were my second favorite player. Just don't do good against the Jazz. Love the Bell signing. I think KOC realize we need defense to beat the Lakers

Blazers will regret this deal if they can't use Wes and a package to get Paul. We are paying a proven guy over a span of many years 3 years and 10 million. They are paying a guy who could be good but likely won't get much of a chance with them 5 years and 34 million. Eat it Blazers.

It will be fun to see Raja vs. Wes and Jefferson vs. Boozer next season.

I'm optimistic that the Jazz players will fare well in those contests.

The biggest loser in all this could be Matthews. He was doing so well with the Jazz and a guaranteed starter to play big minutes. The sky was the limit. Now he has to sit on the bench behind Roy, like Rudy did, and you can see how disgruntled Rudy is. In fact, Rudy wants to be traded. Sorry for Wesley. Another big challenge to overcome.

I wouldn't go that far. He is guaranteed 34 million dollars over the next 5 years. Even with taxes that will leave him with what? 21 million dollars? Glad you got paid Wes, even happier it wasn't with us for that price.
