This is an interesting topic. I feel the need to say a few things about it. However, This post really only has relevence if the jazz get Golden States draft pick. Yes, this is indeed the truth because even if the jazz pick at 14 in the draft, I do not think Damien Lillard or Kendall Marshall fall that far, especially in a draft so rare in good point guard prospects.
Barring the Jazz do get Golden States pick, who would you rather them choose between Lillard and Marshall. Perhaps this Question could be better asked if stated thus: Will a scoring or passing PG be better for the Jazz future. Lillard is more of a scoring PG (2nd in the nation) and Marshall is an exceptional passing PG (almost 10 assists a game in college).
This question could be answered when looking at the team as presently constituted. Of the four young guys the Jazz are moving forward with, Hayward is the only one that is giving us a pretty accurate assesment as to what he shall become offensively; He has been scoring the B-ball well the last 20 or some odd games. Of course Hayward is older, being 22 while Kanter is just 19, Burks 20, and Favors 20 as well.
I think if Favors gets 30 plus mintues a night, he can give you at least 12 points a game just off his athleticism. I'm high on Burks, and think he'll be able to be a reliable scoring option in 2 to 3 years. Why not say he will one day score 18 a game. Kanter is the biggest Mystery of all our lottery picks. i'm anticipating 15 and 12 in his prime. I think Hayward will be at least a 17 point a game scorer. that is 64 points a game from those 4 (I would not be suprised if each one of them surpasses that. moreover, i didn't want to go over the top with optimism).
With that being said, I think the jazz need Lillard more than Marshall. Lillard shot a very high percentage from 3 point land which is another thing the jazz need. Marshall really just can't shoot as well. Lillard is also a great kid, with great work ethic; he'll be a great addition to the locker room. My choice is officially Lillard
