What's new

Omer Asik

Hahaha. Yesssss

I love it when other people are fighting and it doesn't involve me.

My opinion on this thread is that it sucks.

Why don't we wait until we solve the problem of getting Favors off the bench, let alone Kanter and Evans, before we start considering bringing in more bigs?

No one can assume that one of our vet bigs will be gone this offseason. It's not a lock. If you don't think so then you don't know KOC very well.

omer asik is one of the most athletic players in the nba for a guy his size. not many big men can move as well as him, he is quick as hell. great team/help defender. he's a great rebounder, shot blocker and should be one of the best big men defenders in the league. deandre jordan might be more explosive as asik, but no way is his lateral quickness on the level of asik. asik has great length: a huge wingspan and should be like 7-1 in shoes.

but he has bad hands, not many moves and is a bad free throw shooter. he will score with layups, putbacks and occassionaly dunk on people. he is a solid alley-oop option as well. otherwise, he won't score much. his conditioning looks bad, too.

but he is one of the best back up bigs in the league and could become a 7-10 ppg, 11 rpg and 2.5 bpg type of a player with starter minutes and should get paid like 6-8 million dollars per year. we're talking about an athletic big man that has great length!

Thanks dude. You obviously know more about Asik than any of us probably do. I agree with all your points. I would love to have him, but he is going to be out of price range and we have more important areas to fix in FA.

Also, Kwame Brown signed a 1 year deal worth 6.7 million dollars this year. Kwame Brown.

true. with asik's athleticizm, defense and length, he should easily get paid like 6-8 millions per year. but with the new cba, he can only get a contract in the range of 5-6 millions within the first two years, if i'm not wrong...

Not entirely sure, but that would make it even more impossible to sign. He would have tons of offers for the max money (whatever that may be) for his experience, so he would be able to choose where he goes. Probably not going to come to Utah to be a 4th big, unless he really likes Kanter.

look at the OP. This whole thought experiment is based on the presumption that Jefferson gets dealt, and, by implication, Favors is starting.

Kanter shouldn't be counted on for more than 20-24 minutes next year, and should probably come off the bench.

Any discussion involving the trade of Millsap or Jefferson requires a subsequent discussion about adding another big man, because you can't expect to do very well without 4 bigs. Having assumed the trade of jefferson, this thread is the subsequent discussion. Clear?

Of course it isn't a lock that one of the bigs is gone this offseason. Use your imagination and think about the terms of the OP. Why can't you (and others) do this? Isn't this the most important skill you could have if you want to discuss things in this kind of setting? I guess being a smartass is easier and (maybe) more fun.

The last thing we need (if we ship out Jefferson) is another project big. Asik has some bankable skills that are already established. He seems like a great guy to have play 20-24 minutes.

if i were asik, i would look for a deal like this: 5 / 5 / 10 / 10 (4 years, 30 millions). the new cba won't allow him to get more than the mle within the first two years.

for sure asik is looking to start on a team and wants to get his 25-30 minutes per game. his conditioning right won't allow him to play more minutes.

asik would be an ideal fit next to a scoring pf that needs more help on the defensive end.

I don't think any contract jumps 100% in value from 2nd to 3rd year. That may be possible, but I don't think I have ever seen it.

well, he could earn a starting spot in Utah. Millsap at 3, Favors at 4, Asik at 5. But, KOC won't guarantee him a starting spot or minutes.

I don't really get the feeling that Utah's front office or coaching staff really see Millsap as the starting 3 of the future. Who knows though.

You are right. I hate it when people do the same thing to me. Jazzfanz is turning me into a Dick. I don't even know who the person I am looking at in the mirror is anymore. I dont leave the house, I don't shave or shower. I have become a monster. And to top it all off I can't sleep. My house is right under a freeway bridge. It's so loud.
