What's new

How are we number 8 in these power rankings???? Seriously?????

People who don't follow the Jazz closely tend to think Carlos Boozer is a superstar based on his stats but they don't know that he doesn't play defense and misses 50% of his games. So who cares about what they think?

We have to be better than the Spurs and the Blazers at this point, no doubt about that.

No worries, everyone thought we'd just hover around the 8 seed last season after we got ousted by the Lakers in the 1st round the year before and we were for the bulk of the season in the hunt for the 2 seed in the west

The Thunder and Lakers are better than us. If you think otherwise you are kidding yourself. The Thunder are getting better too which is scary.

"Oklahoma City Thunder – This team is just scary. They have the strongest young core in all of basketball (my apologies to Portland, folks) and are only going to get better from here. Also, acquiring Cole Aldrich during the draft was an absolute coup for this team, I believe. Sam Presti has built a foundation that few saw coming this soon. I still think OKC could use another playmaker to play alongside Durant and Westbrook, but I think they are still good enough to hold down the number 3 spot right now."

Thankfully I think we improved, and will match up a little better with the top 2 teams in the West this year. I still don't see us beating them in the end though.

1. Lakers
2. Thunder
3/4. Utah or Dallas

Portland, and the Nuggets will be good this season, and may pass us in the end. Right now though I think we are a top 4 team, and they are outside looking in.

I think L.A. is the clear-cut number 1. Number 2, is kind of a toss-up, but Dallas has it. They are incredibly deep. OKC is 3, followed by Utah at 4, Houston @ 5, Denver @ 6, San Antonio @ 7 and Portland @ 8...there. done.

I think OKC will be right there in the hunt but remember when the Hornets exploded for 58 wins a couple years back then fell off? I think teams will be more ready for OKC this year and they won't be catching anyone by surprise. I wouldn't necessarily put them above us yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if they surpass us once the games start

the has beens? random site, can take their opinion too seriously, anyways there are still roster moves to be made.

Teams will prepare more for OKC, but you also have to account for their growth as a team.
They are VERY young, and have a lot of players that have higher ceilings. Their roster is stacked from top to bottom
with talent.

There is always chance things don't go well for them. Look at what happened to Portland last year.
Still, I don't see how you can place the Jazz over them right now.

I think the Thunder will be great, and I think Durant is unbelievably awesome, but they just squeezed into the playoffs last year. I don't see them leaping to 2 just by virtue of being a year older. I could be wrong. I also think we have made big strides this offseason. I can see the Jazz competing for a 60 win season next year. I could be wrong about that too... But think about this: if we had played well at the beginning of the season, instead of bottoming out in the horrible way that we did early on, we could easily have won 58 or 59 games last year.

Eh, I'm noticing now that the OP was a WC exclusive. According to the FS, we'd be 6. So, essentially, disregard my post.

I'm kinda shocked to be honest. I figured we'd be in the 5-7 range, but not 8. We're much, much, much better than that I think. Jefferson + Bell + Hayward? Boozer & Korver can be replaced, IMO...what does everyone think?

The article is poorly written and badly reasoned at best. No reason to take it seriously.

My favorite part was the statement that "With a starting 5 of Kidd, Butler, Marion, Nowitzki and Haywood, this team is primed for a major playoff run." What? You mean the same starting 5 that got toasted in the first round by the 7 seed?

And LOL @ the notion of Kyle Korver being a "key" piece. Was he ever a key piece for us, I mean, really? The *******'s defining moment was neglecting to take the three in the closing seconds of that Laker playoff game a couple years ago. Good riddance.

Like always as long as we don't draw the lakers we can beat any team in the league in a 7 game series. Even San Antonio isn't safe anymore. So whether Dallas or Denver or Seattle has a better record than us, they don't want to play us, and I feel the Jazz free agency storm isn't over yet which could even more solidify us.

Lets hope either Portland or OKC play LA in playoffs before we do. If Blazers are 100% healthy in terms of big men, they can beat LA, and same goes for OKC.

Rofl rofl

Also, no they can't. Portland has plenty of depth along the frontline, but people severely overrate their actual talent. They have one truly great player and a bunch of decent (and in some cases injury-prone) role players. When Aldridge is your second-best player, you're not going anywhere.

Also, OKC doesn't have any good big men. Aldrich measured shorter than people expected; can't match up with the Laker bigs. Plus, he's a rookie anyway, so it's uncertain what he'll be able to bring in year one.

lol.

Why is Dallas ranked so high? They were punked last year and aren't any better. They aint getting any younger either.

Denver? Please, they're not getting any younger and looked like crap as we dismantled them without HC advantage and 2 big pieces of our starting 5. They haven't done one thing to address their SG or frontcourt positions. Al Harrington doesn't give them anything other than a player who will clash with Melo for chucking jumpers.

I also love hearing about how "great" Houston is going to be.

The Rockets were 42-40 and contending for the 8th and final playoff spot late into the season without Yao Ming last year. Now that the big man is finally healthy again, look for the Rockets to be a force. And look for a full year of Kevin Martin to be a major boost for this team.

I think most sports writers have the same template for the Rockets. Basically, this exact same thing could have been written about them for the past 10 years. Just change Kevin Martin's name to Tracy McGrady and you'd have the exact same "prediction" 5 years ago.

Even when healthy, I would hardly consider the Rockets a force. They haven't been a force since 95.

Why do power rankings even matter to people? Whether some sports writer ranks us #1 or #30 has no effect on how many wins we're going to get next season. In some ways, I think its better to be ranked lower only because maybe our players will read that and want to prove them wrong.
