What's new

I can't complain about the GSW pick...

There are some good SF options in 2013. Probably better than 2 2nd rounders in 2014 .. but who **** knows/cares at this point. Tired of tanker-drama.

That's why I created this thread to allay your worry/anxiety/fear/anger.

Clearly it hasn't worked...

I would prefer it. If 2013 is rubbish and 2014 is better, anyway.

That's cutting it too close for me. If we don't get it then, it turns into two 2nds.

Man, we REALLY need to cash in on it this year. It's not likely we'll have another chance at this kind of value.

I am crushing on you right now, zoid. A rational guy in a sea of medocrity.

It would be HUGE to get it. Adding a player like Lillard, Marshall, or trading it for a vet would be VERY nice. I guess we'd be okay without it, but it could be the difference between being competitive and being a true contender.

Thanks, man, but you should be careful not to ruin your rep. I'm not very popular right now, with my honest opinions of two picks > playoffs. But yeah, I see this offseason as critical in this team getting back to making it past the first round.

I am aware. That's why I said what I said.

I actually started a thread a while back stating something similar. A few months ago I would have preferred keeping 2 draft picks than being in as the 8th seed in the playoffs.

Boy, how things have changed. With how Hayward & Favors have grown the last few weeks in the playoff race, I'd choose playoff experience for them over the draft picks hands down. They need to taste that experience and to know what it takes to get there. They need to know that every game counts next year and their development over the summer is crucial. This run is invaluable for them and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Nah, I'd rather keep the T'wolves pick this year in a deeper draft. Plus I don't want to play the Spurs.

Sorry Big Al.

You were right the first time. Playoff experience will be valuable for Gordo and Favors, but missing one more season isn't going to ruin them. Getting abused in the first round is overrated when talking about experience, compared to just missing the playoffs. There really isn't a playoff fairy that sprinkles magic dust on players just because they MAKE the playoffs. Having some success in the post-season is a different story. If the Jazz manage to make a series out of it in the first round, I will be happy to eat a little crow, but having that extra trade asset in the offseason is completely underrated by fans who let their emotions and pride get the best of them.

Exactly, exactly, exactly.

If we miss out on the chance for a bit of playoff experience this year, the chance will come again, obviously. But the chance to add one or two more very talented rookies probably won't come again, or at least this is definitely our best shot at it. But hey, lets not let perspective and reason get in the way of the fact that OUR BOYS ARE GONNA BE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!

i am firmly in the i-want-a-PG-now crowd (and lean strongly toward marshall). but i also think that adding TWO lottery picks next year is going to create a pretty tough job for the coaches in terms of development. i'm already of the opinion that burks and kanter probably aren't getting all the one-on-one time they need. the coaches have a finite amount of time they can spend working on skills on an individual level, and if 6 members of 2012-13 jazz are recent lottery picks in their first three seasons, i don't think we'll have a realistic shot at developing all of them -- as player OR as assets.

that's why all along i've been hoping that the jazz make the playoffs (an important development opportunity in and of itself) but get the GSW pick -- best of both worlds. then we get our own pick back the following year, when hopefully at least favors and hayward are at a point when they need less hand-holding, and the coaches can reinvest some time in that new guy.

In some ways if we can get the GS pick and give ours to Minny it works out perfectly. We get some experience, pick up another talent in the draft and get this pick of the way so going forward we can trade it or just use it with no worries.

It would be a great scenario, for sure.
