Draft Day Trade Idea

Ok, so there has been a great deal of hype around the Warriors pick. Obviously we all want it badly, but we may not get it. In the case we don't get it, would y'all trade the rights to the top 6 protected 2013 pick for the 12th-14th pick in this draft? Would anyone do this with us?

We are getting the GS pick.

But hypothetically, I would say no. Its not a bad thing to have assets waiting for you in the future. Look how nice it was to have that New York Pick. Thinking of it like saving for a rainy day. I wouldn't be against making any trades that gives us future first founders, especially unprotected.

It's a good draft so we think, but there are no guarantees. My experience in life is that life will throw ironic curve balls. I could see a day where we look back and decide the 2011 class was better than the 2012(outside of Davis). Probably not, but I am just saying it could happen

Also I have thought a lot more about how it might be smart to put some space between your rookie contracts.

But there is a chance that the Warriors finsih in the lottery and catapult into the top 3, like we did this past year. Then the pick becomes a 2nd rouder in 2014, I beleive.

A couple 2nd rounders right?

I know, that would suck.

Well I think we will definitely have a real shot at getting it the next couple if years. There is a good chance GS will not be worse than 6 or 7 the next couple years. Unless injuries hit them hard. Who knows. It kinda just feels like we are conceding some value (Just a little bit). I dunno, I wouldn't be against it I guess. It is supposedly a deep draft. So you could be getting equal value.

If we like someone enough then maybe we could convince some stupid team to take our own 2013 pick(top 5 protected) now that we have freed up our own pick by making the playoffs. I thought that was the pick you were talking about in the first place at first.

We should have traded Josh Howard and CJ at the break. I bet we could have gotten some kind of first founder in there.

I doubt it. But, there was definitely a second-rounder in there somewhere, which is why I was bitching mercilessly.
There are three players in the second round that I'd love to have on this team.

As to the OP...
I think I would do it.... Let's say "YES" if #12; "MAYBE" if #14. I think Rivers and Marshall will be gone by #14; one of them will be there by #12

I don't hate it.

If there is someone that KOC sees that could be a difference maker then I have faith in him that he will make the right decision. And I'm all for getting someone in this draft.

It would be pretty hard to lose with Bogut, Lee, Curry, and striking the top lottery pick this year but GSW will find a way to tank yet again. I would entertain taking a #12 1) because of the loaded draft where someone who you thought would go #4 falls down to #14, 2) removes the risk of losing a first, 3) team cohesion needs a young guy next year to grow with The Four and Millsap instead of waiting until the following season.

I probably would. I doubt you'd get that kind of a sweetheart deal though. Might get someone between 15-18 to bite.

I'd definitely do it. Even if it's only the 14th pick I feel like that would get us Quincy Miller or Austin Rivers. And the 2013 draft just isn't that strong...especially since I doubt the Warriors' pick will be top 10 next year anyway.

Good trade idea, Cy. I think there's something there.

nobody has ventured an answer to who "might do this with us."
The Rockets might, since they have two picks this year...
It'd be sweet if we could pry away #10 from New Orleans, since they also have two picks (plus a roster that is full of youth already).
If the Suns decide to clean house, then maybe #14 is available (if we were also willing to take on a contract (which I probably wouldn't be)).

Yeah, I'm not sure why someone would do it. Maybe because the guy they want is already taken and they aren't high on any of the current players, or maybe we throw in something extra, like a 2nd round pick.

The value of that pick has been diluted by The Warriors conduct these last 2 months.

GS has gone beyond merely tanking. What they're doing now, specifically last night, should be cause for rethinking the rules regarding protected picks.

Think about it like this.

If you were to want the best possible get for this pick it would be to get the 8th spot. And you arent going to get that without a little scare or close call. I love the way this is playing out. Its giving us a chance to get the most out of this pick. We are getting what we would have hoped for a year ago.

We are getting this pick I believe.
