Another Al trade

Hmm.. so you're saying you'd take 1 year of Jefferson over Drummond/Robinson? Wow...

Try reading, pal.

Al comes in for a year. Then, their third pick has a year of experience and they have room to sign two max guys. I've already said this. Would it help if I put a few words in bold?

Well this is what you said is the reason Cavs do this trade:

Cleveland is obviously looking for the future frontcourt mate of Thompson. They have cap space this year, but the prospects at center are pretty bad --> JMcGee, Hibbert (not likely to leave Indy, IMO), and Hawes.

How does Al Jefferson constitute "the future frontcourt mate of Thompson"?

Your words not mine.

I asked Locke via email how reasonable a Jefferson for Lowry/Budinger/draft pick trade was - He responded back, "Real possibility but Lowry is a questionable dude the more I ask around."

He doesn't. But, I'll let you be Sherlock and piece together what on earth I might have meant. Hint: I mentioned "stopgap" in a double sense as well as better free agents in '13.

You can do it.....

I'm sure Cleveland can do better than losing those picks to get Jefferson just as a 'stopgap' and letting him walk.

Plus if I'm Cleveland I'm not so sure I'd bank on persuading FA to go there (not decent ones anyway). That's just too risky. I've got draft picks, I don't mind tanking a few seasons, I'd rather build from the draft.

If Cleveland has Irving (who is already awesome), Thompson, and 2012 #3 all playing well, then they will have a pretty strong pull.

If you don't think so, then you can't post anything about the Jazz having free agent hopes.

Thompson - as it stands - is still a major project.

Regardless, the fact still remains, Cleveland could do better than 1 year rental of Jefferson (if you're not looking to re-sign him) for all those picks.

... for all those picks.

You may be right, but we're talking about a late first and an early second.

Remember, they have to spend 90% of the cap.... I don't see a way they can do that this summer with desirable players in positions of need. They need a financial STOPGAP.

May be I've been living with Jefferson for too long, but I would think you could throw around a few 1-year contracts, and still be better off than Jefferson... plus u can still keep those picks. Dunno.. may be Cleveland might bite as you'd said.. either way we'll have to wait & see..

That's a lot of 1-year contracts. Most players worth a contract ask for more years than 1. I guess they could overpay the hell out of 2 or 3 guys in order to get them to accept a one-year offer...

I still feel like you are missing the nuance of my point.

I understand what you're saying, and if that offer is accepted I'd be very happy from the Jazz stand point. I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here in seeing how realistic it would be for Cleveland to give up those picks for 1 year of Jefferson.
