2012 Draft: Predraft Camps & Workouts

You are right on top of that. I was just going to post the same thing. I do have something to add that I know is pertinent to this discussion:

I haven't seen John Jenkins, but does he have Mo Almond written all over him?

Jenkins is good. Will be a very solid back-up.

To me, it doesn't matter what Jenkins does in workouts as far as shooting is concerned. I know he is a lights out shooter, and a workout isn't going to change that. I want to see if he can defend and play a complete game.

Wow ..

Jenkins = Not a lottery pick .. not sure how stupid of a pick he could be as the best shooter in the draft.
Jones = no surprise about his skillset/ability .. it's his desire to play all the time .. including practice and off-season .. hard to measure in a camp.

So maybe he could've used better examples, but I agree with what Green is sayin'.

This morning from Givony at Draftexpress
Biggest challenge about pre-draft process is amount of time between the end of the season and the draft. Our memory works in funny ways..
Certain types of players just look better than others in workouts. Unfortunately that doesn't mean they are actually good basketball players
Unfortunately, 99% of time we've found they end up reverting back to being exactly the same we thought once they're playing in actual games.
Workouts=My favorite time of year. Every player is suddenly 100% better in every facet of the game. Everyone was "misused" in college.

Moe Harkless of St. John's IS a great talent.
I would say one more year at the eye of Red Storm could have been better for his development, though.

Holy **** that's a massive jump for Waiters.

A smallish 2G that doesn't have anything necessarily jump out at you, imo. Hmm.. wonder why the leap ..

My first thought on the reason...................................Stupidity.

I can't see taking Waiters ahead of JLamb or Austin Rivers .. much less Marshall, Lillard, and another handful of SF's and PF's ..

He had a fairly poor freshman season and this year averaged around 12pts and a few boards. Shot a good overall % at 53%, but FT's at a meh 73% and the 3 at a meh 36%. I don't know that anything even remotely looks like lottery material, at least in the draft. Not saying Chad's wrong, I'm just not sure what he's seeing/hearing.

Maybe its the Syracuse bump. Wesley Johnson benefited from it.

Alex Kennedy: Dion Waiters (@DionWaiters3) is one of the best guards in this class. One prospect said: "Dion is the best player I've ever played against."

Looks like my guy O'Quinn is getting some love

Steve Kyler: Kyle O'Quinn says he thinks he can be like Serge Ibaka - Kenneth Faried... high motor agressive rebounder shot blocker dirty work guy.

Considering he only blocked 3 shots per game at a small school, I doubt he can be anything like Ibaka. It's always nice to see 2nd round picks show that they realize what they have to strive to be to make in the league, workers not scorers.

I like O'Quinn and I think he would be a decent backup big guy. However, he doesn't fit a need unless the Jazz move AJ. I like the energy of Moe Harkless but his outside shooting is not very good. I admit I didn't watch too may Syracuse games but Waiters certainly didn't do anything to say I would take him in the lottery.

If Quinn is available in the 2nd round that is a good pick though. He may only ever be our 4th big, but who knows, maybe someone goes down and gets a 10-20 game stretch of substantial playing time and he does great, becoming a tradeable asset.

If there is one thing I trust KOC on, it's drafting in the 2nd round.

He's an athletic playmaker who can create his shot - perhaps a more skilled scorer than any other wing in the draft. My biggest concerns regarding Waiters would be his lack of serious production, his size and his willingness to defend (he's a playmaker defensively, but as with all Syracuse players, can he defend on the ball?). It would have been nice to see him produce bigger numbers last year (something like 18-20 ppg with 30+ minutes), but when you watch him, you can see the explosiveness and scoring ability. He only played 24 minutes a game and that team was built to have a balanced attack. Despite the 13 ppg average, he was clearly the most dangerous guy on that team.
