This makes me feel better about things. I say we gamble and hope we get the pick this year.
listening to Thrilling Gatino tell people to calm down and stick to the issue at hand is like Louis CK telling people he doesn't **********.
Easy. Burks and they get the pick this year. We get Thompson and no protection next year. They get a scorer and their pick, we get a shooter and a chance at a better pick next year. But mainly we get a shooter that can step in and get big minutes.
There's no chance they essentially trade Thompson for Burks.
I wouldn't think so, but trading the protection for a late pick who will turn into another Quincey Lewis, Scott Pagent, Koufos, Almond, etc is just dumb. I would rather save the $$$ for a FA who has proved something and take my chances with the lottery. If we do a trade with GS, we had better get something back that immediately helps.
That's my thinking if I am KOC. I'm not helping the team that lost on purpose to screw me over for a late round first or even worse, a second round pick.
It's not as crazy as you think. Thompson avg 12 pts in 25 mins. Burks was 7 in 15 mins. Burke is more athletic and a better defender and ball handler. Thompson is a better shooter. Thompson is more polished offensively but Burks has a higher ceiling.
Anyways, this is all besides the point. The point is, trading for a late first round or second round pick is dumb. GS screwed Utah. We are going to help them for a pick that statistically won't be on the team in 3 years? No thanks. Like I said, I would rather have the cap space to sign a FA who has a proven skill set and the chance at #8.
This board completely over values draft picks, especially late first round and second round picks.
