Do you BYU guys stop.....EVER

So what are the hot spots to hit in SLC for some post game celebrations this year? I'm going to need them twice.

And what's this talk about BYU fading? Bronco lacks the huge celebratory years, but their winning pct. is still solid. They haven't gone anywhere. I'd dump Bronco tomorrow if I were the AD because I do think BYU can be a lot better, but them fading is just not reality.

Props for owning up to that. Many BYU fans in here have the damndest time doing what you just did.

However utah fans seem like they think that the utes are on the level of usc, alabama, florida, texas, oklahoma, ohio state, notre dame, michigan ect ect.

I don't know what Utah fans you're hanging around, but I don't think that's the case. Sure, you'll get your over the top homers in every fan base, but I don't think most Ute fans see Utah in the same light as USC, Alabama, Florida, etc. Sure, the Sugar Bowl win over Alabama was nice, but it doesn't make Utah a better program. Bama's multiple national titles since that game is evidence enough. Truth is, Utah has a million miles to go in terms of spending, recruiting, and everything else that would go into making them as big as somebody like USC or Alabama.

And they act like byu are down at the bottom with new mexico, unlv, wyoming etc etc.

Obviously, BYU is not as bad as those programs. But with that being said, I think they are entering a very crucial period in which I think they are in serious danger of slipping into that category. The blue kool-aid honks can tout independence all they want but it's not a good thing in regards to BYU becoming more prominent on a national level. IMO if BYU doesn't find their way into a power conference, you will see a gradual slip into football pergatory. As of right now, BYU has no choice but to play an awful November schedule and a bigger problem still exists: There's no solution in sight for solving the November scheduling woes. Teams from bigger conferences don't want to break away from conference scheduling to accomodate BYU. Aside from finding a home in a conference, how does BYU find a way to fix this problem?

I hear alot about byu's crappy schedule. I think utahs schedule IS better not by as much as ute fan seem to believe.

Actually, I'm rather impressed by the quality of BYU's schedule for 2012. The problem is, they're forced to play the best teams on their schedule during the early to mid part of the season. I've said it before: That's too much to ask of any program. A front heavy schedule is going to cause them to lose more games than they should, which isn't an option if you're trying to be relevant and independent at the same time. I could easily see BYU losing 4 or 5 games this year. How long are fans going to put up with 8 win seasons and yearly trips to a low level bowl? How long are BYU fans supposed to shell out cash for 8:30 Thursday night games against WAC schools in mid November? But hey, they're on ESPN 2 right? That must be progress.

As a BYU fan, you admitted that Utah has been trending up recently while BYU has tailed off during that same time. An honest question I'd like to ask you, or any other BYU fan that is serious about having a civil discussion on the topic: What is going on in the here and now that is going to make the future any different? Utah's pockets are only getting deeper, their new facilities are only going to improve upon their old ones and they're already holding their own in recruiting considering the limited budget they've had to work with coming from the MWC. While resources will never be a problem for BYU, they are a church owned school who isn't very comfortable making football one of their top priorities and as of right now, they're having trouble merging into a bigger conference. Unless something drastic in this equation changes, the gap is only going to get bigger.

No its more me being superstitious. When I talked no trash in '08 the team won a BCS bowl game. I talked trash last year and they went 8-5. I'm not gonna speculate what their record is, but USC at home will be extremely tough, @Washington and @ASU will be tough games and the Cal game will be another close game. Those are the most difficult games on the schedule

Thank god, finally someone who is like i am and just calls it how it is. I am a huge byu fan and i am extremely worried about the future of our program. I have noticed top notch mormon players going to other schools more often, i hate it how bronco seems to not want to play his more talented guys as much as less talented guys who are "scrappier" (sloan had this same problem), and of course i am very worried about being left out of the big major conferences/playoffs.

I think byu's biggest problem is also the thing that alot of fans are most proud of. The honor code/high standards. I feel like byu will never budge on thier standards and that is the biggest thing holding them back from being able to go up as a program. I think that they would be in the big 12 right now but they didn't want to screw over the wcc conference that took thier other sports in, and they worried about sunday play.

I am not a mormon but was raised on byu football (after hunting or fishing in the mornings in the fall my brothers and dad would watch the games together). I drink, have done lots of drugs, pre-marital sex, etc etc. So it is frustrating for me because sometimes i am wishing that they would get more of the ethnic (fast, athletic) athletes that i see at the u of u but the atmosphere at byu is not catering to most of them. (not a whole bunch of black mormon kids). It is really something to be proud of that they stick to thier guns with the honor code in a day and age where most programs look the other way, but it sure is hard to compete with the other schools when they are on a different playing field.

Some byu fans will read my posts and question how much of a fan i am...... despite my frustrations i am a HUGE fan and watch every game and live and die by the results. My closet is full of byu gear, i go spend my money at the games and love the team as much as the next fan but i have always been a level headed person who sees things how they are.

I see notre dame as one of the most recognizable and top programs in the country, boise state one of the best teams in the last decade with bcs wins and very high rankings, then some average bcs schools (utah, georgia tech, oregan state, washington state) and then a buch of crap.

Utah schedule next year: USC, arizona state, washington, arizona, byu, ucla, oregon state, cal, colorado, washington state, utah state, northern colorado.


So byu has 2 top level schools to play, Utah has one. Byu has 4 average teams, Utah has 7. byu has 6 crappy teams, utah has 3.

So ya utah has the better schedule but not ALOT better. The utes should end up with a record around 10-3 and byu should finish around 10-2.

1. Are you saying ND is on the same freakin level as USC?? Get real! They went 8-5, same as Utah and had an easier schedule.
2. USC> Boise St. Boise St is good but not that good. Boise lost a lot of their offense and defense
3. The 2 Pac12 teams BYU plays(Not counting Utah) consist of the bottom 3. Wazzu, Oregon St and CU
3. And BYU going 10-2? So you are saying you will win 2 of @Boise St, @Utah, @ND, @Gtech. And I don't see Hawaii, Wazzu, Utah St, Oregon St being cake walks either
4. About Utah's schedule, it is tough game after tough game. The last 3 games for BYU... they can play scout team and still destroy them
 
and to answer your question jazzman12 i dont see anything right now that will make the future better... and i do agree that with more money going to the utes plus being able to say they are in a bcs conference the utes recruiting should only improve.

I am just hoping that byu gets into a bcs conference or finds some other way to be involved in playoffs.

The biggest positive that byu has over utah right now is the tv exposure is quite nice. Even if the games are on thursday or friday night, at least they are about the only game on so alot of people watch those espn games. Plus i love that byu tv shows the games that aren't on espn networks. i never miss a game and all are in HD! (hated the mtn). And right now byu still has alot of talent (van noy is a stud, the recievers are the best they have ever had, lots of young talented tight ends, and a good all around defense.) But i am very worried about the future.

You just like to argue apparently.
1. I said notre name is one of the most RECOGNIZABLE and TOP PROGRAMS in the country..... Those are facts. I didn't say that are as good as USC.
2. That is why i said that those pac 12 teams are just average teams.... that is true also as i dont think they suck as bad as wyoming, colorado state, new mexico, etc
3. I didnt say i think byu will go 10-2 I said that they could because the no one on thier schedule is unbeatable (they dont play usc, oklahoma, alabama, lsu, etc.) and this team has lots of experience and talent whether you admit it or not.
4. utahs schedule is not tough game after tough game. Games 1 and 2: northern colorado, utah state (neither team is "tough") Games 6,7,8,9,10,11,12: ucla, oregan state, cal, washington state, washington (maybe i will give you that one), arizona, colorado. Washington is the only tough game of that 7 game stretch.... unless the utes just aren't very good then maybe oregan state, washinton state, ucla, arizona, colorado, nothern colorado, utah state are tough teams.
If those 7 teams are "tough games" for the utes then the utes probably are not very good.

I don't see any way that a die hard coug fan wouldn't be extremely worried about byu's future.

Dead program walking, unless a BCS conference saves them.

I'm pretty sure a big group of fools said the same thing about the NO Jazz moving to the middle of Mormonville's desert. But ya, keep on dreaming there, chode-smoke. Missed you at the game tonight, by the way. You missed out, I was in rare form.
 
Utes all day, but I will admit that I religiously watched BYU basketball when I was 9-13 then completely stopped for some reason. I admire the rivalry and enjoy the hatred between the two fans. Football wise, I think BYU choice to go independent isn't a very good one. It's almost essential that they will need a good conference to excel in. Question is....Who is willing to pick them up?

Now that Wynn is healthy, Utes should be smashing the pac 12 soon. I'm excited to see how Star, York, White are going to perform. I also hope Langi gets a few runs too. I don't see BYU becoming a threat of any sort until the new qb Tanner Magnum matures.

BYU with baggage (too many demands) .. no one. It's laughable to think about, really. I do, however, think BYU would/could get an invite to a few different BCS conferences .. but not with the prima donna demands. Bleak.
 
Incidentally, Roger, in case it wasn't obvious, I'm neither a fan of BYU nor the Utes .. though I did quite enjoy the mid-90's and all the Ute thumping we did .. Majerus was quite the sport about it too.
 
Harvey Langi still smokin weed up there like it's his job. I thought there was an outside shot that staff could straighten him out.

What do you think about that Hill QB kid you coached in high school moving to Tight End? I noticed that when I was looking at BYU's roster the other day. Is he that kind of athlete?
