What's new

Nick Emery and Kayden Porter

He's not a shooting guard, nor is he in this year's class. And he's been tearing up AAU basketball and breaking tournament scoring records, so anybody that talks him up is doing so for good reason. The kid puts 30 on everybody.

As far as Utahan's in the NBA though, we've got work to do. C.J. Wilcox at Washington looks like he'll probably be next. He's solid. Brandon Davies has an outside chance. Tyler Haws potentially in a few years. Think that's about it for the Utah bred boys for a couple years.

thank you. i think pkm is just a troll though so i dont think he cares about facts.

Keep your eye on jaylen Moore from sky view. His dad played in the nba. He has some real talent.

Yeah, I heard pretty much the same thing.

Rumor has it, he has already filled one trophy case, and had to buy another one last week. Luckily for him, he picked one up cheap at the Heaps family yard sale.

Although scoring 30 is not easy. AAU doesn't mean jack **** unless it's like on the national level. The Iowa Attack an AAU team that was in my area, had Harrison Barnes, Doug McDermott, and Marcus Paige a recent UNC recruit. They accomplished a lot and still rank top 25 pretty consistently in the country. Anybody can sign up a rinky dink aau team and play. Since I haven't seen a top 25 Utah team, I'm going to assume the competition is not that great at all times. Although, I do think that being so close to California there is some awesome competition on the west coast. Although, the only team I know that is good is Oakland Kings. It just totally depends. But, the kid will not play in the NBA and he won't be better than Jimmer was.

So, Emery, a 6'1 SG ranked 73rd in the nation (not bad at all, btw) is actually on par with Nerlens Noel, Shabazz Muhammed, Alex Poythress, etc ... because he schools in Utah?

I thought he was up to 49 on ESPN at least. I've seen him play, he is the second best high school shooter I have seen in person ( I played one game against JJ Redick in high school, he was so ****ing smooth ) but Emery is a seriously legit shooter, I am confident he is a top 5 shooter in the country. It is literally like watching Jimmer all over again. Will he do it in college? We will have to see, but god damn is he one impressive high schooler.

I just looked at Rivals. I like Scout and Rivals' recruiting services .. ESPN is a complete joke.

First off, they absolutely play a national AAU schedule, and they have beaten the crap out of some top AAU teams. Do some research. 2nd the competition in Utah is nothing to be scoffed at, it is not as deep as it is on the coasts and the major cities but Lone Peak is definitely a top 25, possibly a top 10 team this year.

I admit I don't know much (nothing) about AAU in Utah .. but one strong team in the state does not mean that team is playing against top competition. (not saying they don't)

AHAHAHAHAHA. This guy's acting like AAU ball is Jr. Jazz. No, that's actually NOT how AAU ball works. It's usually All-Star teams, not your little neighborhood kids showing up. Your friend that is the fry cooker at your local Iowa McDonald's does not get to play at the Big tournaments. You know nothing. But thanks for your futurist predictions.

I can see how you might not think something like this is noteworthy:

Lone Peak is coming off a runner-up finish at the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., finishing with a 3-1 record. Nick Emery set a new four-day tournament scoring record with 119 points, surpassing both Mike Bibby and Kobe Bryant who played in the tournament during their prep careers.

But you know, anybody that is objective just might. I hear that Kobe Bryant guy was pretty good. Mike Bibby not bad. We're talking a big-time scorer here by any measure. Whether he plays in the NBA or not is irrelevant. His high school accomplishments are still great. It's not like we're debating whether the Jazz should snatch him or not. He might flame out at BYU for all I know. I'm just acknowledging what he is right now.
