Downside of Trading Jefferson-who replaces him?

I really couldn`t care less. We traded for Favors and drafted Kanter because we believe in them. If we dump Jefferson and/or Harris for next to nothing we will have a bad season, but as long as our young core develops and manage to excite us on every other night or so, it`s a win anyway. If it turns out that we actually need another big, we can use the GS pick next year.
Yes, we believe in them, but the Jazz knew Kanter was a project. I don't think we'll see a deal for Jefferson until the deadline. That gives kanter another 1/2 season to show if he's ready to be a starter. It was interesting that the Jazz brought in some bigs to work out. Perhaps the #47 pick will be a center to back up Kanter. I want to see Favors dominate at the 4 before he has to guard starting 5's every game.

The rule of thumb is that you don't trade BIG for small. So, if Jazz are using Jefferson as a trade asset to for a point guard, I would hope that they get a serviceable big for him as well.

We will desperately need a consistent shooting threat, to open up the paint for Millsap. Favors at the 5 should be alright.

Gods, what I would do for a Lillard + bad contracts for Al trade. I would name my firstborn son Kevin.

But what if Jazz_Fanatic doesn't agree to it?

Don't get me wrong I want the team to trade Jefferson for the future. But is everyone okay with backsliding out of the playoffs because Favors and Kanter get into foul trouble or hurt? IMO Favors is ready but he is still foul prone. Playing Kanter more than 20 min/game is a really big risk.

I don't believe trading Jefferson makes us worse. Think about this for a moment. Suppose last year we didn't have Jefferson. How many games did he put us on his back and single handily win? I can think of 3. Now, how many games did he lose for us? I can think of at least 5. He averaged 19 pts and 10 rebs. I would argue that defensively, he gave up close to that amount of points.

So, if by playing Favors more minutes, you can stop 4 additional points per game, you now only need to make up for 15 pts a night. Favors averaged 10 pts playing with Jefferson. When Jefferson was hurt, he averaged 16. So, we only need to come up with 9 more points for the Jazz to be at a wash. If the Jazz played team basketball, instead of standing around watching Jefferson hold the ball, do you not think Bell could have average one more point? Hayward with 3 more points? Millsap with two more points? Harris with two more points? That gets us up to 8 pts.

The point being, I really don't think the team is any worse without Jefferson. Also, how much better could we have been had Favors gone into the SA series as the man. Hayward used to taking 12 shots every single night? Harris knowing he can push the ball whenever? Millsap having the lane open? Favors guarding Tim instead on shaking knees Al?

This team only gets better by moving Al.

is this a serious question? i would posit that that he did the complete opposite. yes, he occasionally had big games down the stretch against the bobcats or wizards. but in 4th quarters of winnable games against good-to-great teams, al was horrible. HORRIBLE.

Read my next sentence. I gave him credit for 3 out of 66 games. Burks put us on his back and won more games than that. My point was the exact same point you are making. My whole point is that Al was so bad, we could trade our 20 and 10 guy and get better, ala Denver.

ok, whew. i thought i was gonna hafta launch into my chorus and two verses on al again. not that i would have minded too much. i have a pre-prepared list of all the times al disappeared in 4th quarters of games we could have won.

LOL. I would LOVE to see that list. I went through all the games and I found three that were won by 5 or less, and Al had huge nights in. I was so depressed I didn't do the losses.

1) WHY WOULD KANTER GO FROM 10 MPG OFF THE BENCH TO SUDDENLY STARTING???
2) Why would Favors be more suited to dominate as a 4 than as a 5? Speed is as much or more an advantage as strength is.

Holy ****.

i would venture a guess that they weren't great opponents though.

i did a pretty comprehensive study in late february about this. obviously it didn't include march & april games, but at that point in the season, al was shooting 14% in fourth quarters of games we lost but could have won. paul was shooting 52%. al was averaging 2.7 and 2.0 in those fourth quarters... paul was averaging 8.6 and 2.7... and yet the ball kept going to al down the stretch.

then the wizards would come in and al would put up 30+ and everybody would talk about how clutch al was, but that's a game we should have won either way.

The only game I can recall where I thought "Jefferson really came up big" was the final Phoenix game. Too many other games were like the multi-OT games against Atlanta and Dallas where he put up some numbers but they were soft (i.e. no free throw attempts) numbers. Memo had a knock against him for being soft and shooting outside shots, but Memo could get to the free throw line. Jefferson avoids it like the plague. The only contact he had last year was being hit by his girlfr....no, I'm not going there.

I believe whole heartidly that we could have amnestied Al before last season and endedup with the the sixth seed in the playoffs. Last year was a waste of a year, no matter how you look at it. Wasted a year of Favor's development and contract. Wasted a year with Al. Wasted a chance for a better playoff spot or a draft pick. Having Al on this team set this team back at least one year, if not more depending on what happens in the draft tonight.

Not only am I ok with this but I welcome this with open arms. Kanter is going to come in next year an surprise people, fans included. We will be fine with getting rid of Jefferson. We will still compete for the playoffs if we keep Millsap and get rid of Jefferson.

I dont think anybody in the world can replace AJ. He is just unique
