Jazz trade Devin Harris to Atlanta for Marvin Williams (merged)

Jazz could really use a wing defender like Marvin and a true SF. Brings a lot of athleticism. Now, if they get rid of Big Al this team is downright scary in transition

could just be wishful thinking.

i love how we're all BEGGING teams to take al off our hands and yet simultaneously very confident that every other team wants al.

I am sure that Big Al could be moved if we were willing to take bad contracts back.

On the Marvin Williams thing- he is a reasonably good fit and the Hawks may do it to free up cap space one year earlier.

Wow, I just looked at Atlanta's roster and they're screwed. 6 players under contract. 61 million.

Hell, Jazz could do Harris and Bell for Williams. I'd be all aboard that.

This trade would be pointless.

Does it help the Jazz this season? Maybe but not by much

Does it help the Jazz in the future? No, because we trade one expiring contract for another expiring contract.

No thanks.

Does anyone know if he's a good defender?

from what i'm seen, he's sporadically decent.

he's very long and, when he's playing hard, can disrupt things a bit for his guy, even if it doesn't result in a block/steal/deflection. problem is he doesn't seem to be ALWAYS bought in on D.

If it's true, yes.

I actually wanted Marvin Williams over that other guy with the same last name in the draft (I thought we could get value at PG in a trade or free agency). Of course I was wrong, but Williams is a nice player. It will be a bit confusing to have two "M. William's" on the team. Hope Boler and Harp can handle it. Williams is a career 45%/33% shooter, but is coming off a year shooting nearly 39% on his 3's. He's been a starter but was coming off the bench as of late, so I'm sure he'd accept either role.

The biggest question now is does KOC envision him as a SF or is he a PF? He's played both forward positions in his career. This trade could mean that negotiations with Millsap have reached an impasse and Paul will be traded. Marvin might be brought in to be Favors' backup. I know this is a different era, but the Jazz have traded away big name players before to make room for young guys who they felt would be stars if they got enough PT.

I'd be OK with this trade. I'm not sure there's a huge market for Harris, so this would be solid.

LOL - not including their rookies, Hawks have only 6 players under contract for a combined 60+ mil.

Why would they take equal money back in a trade for a position they've already got covered?

Either BS or there is something more to this rumor that we haven't seen yet.

If it's true, not just yes, but HECK YES. Hey, that's the best I can do...I'm trying to set a better example for my daughter.

Hawks play small. Williams could guard stretch 4s, but not actual Power Forwards. This potential trade has no bearing on Millsap.

I'm on board. They're going to lose Hinrich (I know they still have Teague), and they're desperate to shed some salary.

With his length I like the idea of him and Hayward defending the perimeter.

I mentioned this a few minutes before you did. Salaries fit to add Bell, so they'd get 2 players for 1, which helps them.

If you guys think we can get any more than Marvin for Harris you are crazy. This is a good trade, fills a need, gets rid of a log jam and doesn't **** up with team chemistry or screw the money situation for 2013

Williams was always listed as a swing forward, even when he was drafted. I remember that was one of the concerns...what position would he actually play. But I think you're right. He's more of a SF. I just scrolled up and read the comments by nerd. Appears that this is only an idea, not a rumor.

Keep in mind that the Hawks are in talks with the Nets for a deal that would send Joe Johnson to the Nets in exchange for 4 or 5 players (yes, that's how much JJ is getting paid). If that ends up happening, the Hawks would have a fairly full roster for what that's worth.
