Raja Bell to Minnesota for Wesley Johnson

https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=79tg5sx

Minnesota gets expiring deal as they go after long terms deals with Brandon Roy, Jamal Crawford and Nicolas Batum, which indicates that they may have given up on Johnson.

Wesley Johnson has struggled in Minnesota and could benefit from fresh start and better organization. Utah might have to add a protected 1st rounder or at least a second rounder, as he was the #4 pick in the 2010 draft.

Obvious yes from Utah.

Minnesota I'd imagine would say no. If they want to make Johnson an expiring contract, just decline his team option.

yeah, nobody is going to give up any kind of asset to get raja bell. unfortunately, raja made it obvious what kind of position the jazz are in, and everybody knows we HAVE to get rid of him. the whole NBA knows that we're going to get $.15 on the dollar for raja (and in raja's case, the dollar isn't worth much to begin with). they also know if a deal doesn't go through, he'll get amnestied and they can either pick him up at his current salary without sacrificing anything, or they can wait for him to clear waivers and sign him for even less.

so minny's not giving up a recent lotto pick. no way.

best case scenario for raja is that somebody wants a bench wing defender badly enough that they decide to offer a second-rounder or a minimum-level scrub so they don't have to run the risk of missing out on him when he hits free agency. but even then, nobody's going to give up a ton because they know that the line for bell's services isn't going to be around the block.

Nobody wants Raja. It's that simple.
Usually veterans are there for their leadership skills if they can't play (Derrick Fisher, IE)
But Raja can't play, can't lead, and can't play.

If Minnesota agrees to this type of trade that means KOC has some pictures of somebody in the Wolves organization. I'd be surprised if we can just GET RID of Raja at this point.

Hell yes! I'd trade him for a bad case of the shingles.

You can bet that KOC tried to dump Bell in both of the trades this week and it didn't work. I think the only way he's gone is if he's waived (or amnestied, which still seems pointless to me as the Jazz could still us the amnesty on, say, Marvin Williams if he opts in, sucks, and the Jazz think they could use that space for a hot-shot FA).

But if you can somehow dupe the Wolves into that ridiculous trade, halle****inglujah.

can't use the amnesty on players acquired via trade after the new CBA was approved.

only guys we can use the amnesty on are players who were already under contract as jazzmen prior to december 2011.

If the wolves wanted raja all they would offer is Ellington. Johnson we would have to give them our first next year if not the gst pick.

How about if Minny wanted Raja, all they have to do is ask nicely?

I think that's a steep demand. They don't need to ask nicely. They just need to ask... No, on second thought, they just need to mention the word "Bell" in trade negotiations.
