Penn State?

I agree. There are thousands of students and a lot of good professors and employees who had absolutely nothing to do with this and are probably equally, if not more appalled than we are. This should be treated as a criminal case and everyone who knew about and ignored or covered up the abuse should be dealt with according to the law - and certainly banished from any future association with Penn State. Now, I'm not sure if the educational system has licensing similar to medical or legal professions. But those convicted should have whatever credentials can be revoked, revoked. Perhaps part of any future probation would be a requirement to find employment outside the education system.

As heinous as these crimes, it was one man, assisted in hiding his crimes by a select few. I do not believe in penalizing current students, athletes and honest men and women who work at Penn State for the crimes that were committed in the past by someone else.
The problem with this that I have is that those select few were put in a position of authority at the school. They were the representatives of the school, put there by the school. To me the football program and the school itself should be responsible for the actions of the people they put in charge.

BTW. Thanks to all that have responded. I actually find this to be a very interesting discussion. I don't get enough rep to rep you all so thanks.

FINALLY, the fact that AFTER Joe Pa testified before a grand jury, the School negotiated a BUYOUT for JoePa that included 3 million, a private jet for their family, loan forgiveness, among other things, shows the school was more than just an innocent bystander.

Not sure who your employer is, but let's just say the Director of Marketing is caught embezzling funds...the entire company should fold because he committed a crime, costing you and everyone esle your jobs?

I am self employed. But this is a good argument. It would be better if it were the owner/CEO. But then it would just be the owner stealing money from himself or the stockholders. In this case the company would be in jeopardy.

Also in this case the company itself would be involved in the coverup. Don't you think the goverment would punish the company if that were the case?

Also, doesn't Penn St receive funds from the federal government, and state government as well? If this was a private company, the investors would pull out, bankrupting the company. Shouldn't, at very least, the state and federal govt pull their funding?

The Department of Education is considering what actions to take against the university. I agree that they should pull some funding. But again, that hurts a lot of students who had nothing to do with the abuse or the cover up.

It does send a statement to other university to watch their leaders closer though. In the long run they should be punished to help prevent this from happening again. If Penn State University and Football program come out of this with a slap on the wrist or no punishment is that not sending a message to other schools that the coverup will not be punished and that they have no accountability to the people they have put in charge?

Just so you know, Franklin. I had NO idea what sig Enes wanted to use while we were negotiating. I don't even get it .. but he's paying so..

It is kind of funny for how poor taste it is.

For the record though, the last time I beer goggled it I was 19 in Cancun on a 6 day binger. Impatience screwed up my chances with the hottest chick I've ever had a shot with, so I Hollywood socked it at bars from that day on (until I got married anyway, but that's other stories).

Wow, that must have been a ******* chick to change your life like that. Damn .. Cancun, huh?

The death penalty wouldn't upset me. I couldn't care less about Joe Paterno or his legacy. I will remember him a pedophile enabler.
