What's new

Last Year vs This Year

My 112 year old mom likes to say I'm 87 years young. That's so clever! So yeah, she's a hoot, but I'm sick of the old bag. Been living with her since '74 and I've been seriously thinking about moving out and getting my own place. But it's a big step and I'm not sure if I'm ready.

At this point it's pretty much impossible to tell what's REAL anymore...

Well the dream only lasted 9 minutes, but it was a wild ride. Would've been amazing.

Now you're just somebody that I used to know.

Last time I got my colostomy bag replaced, I'm sure I heard a song with that lyric. Sounded like some young guy whining about some girl he doesn't realize he won't remember in a couple of years. As they say, youth is wasted on the young. But it had emotion even if it was just fiddle faddle.

Still hard to rate the West. Too many teams aren't done shuffling players. I still think there will be about 3 or 4 teams that will be sniffing after Al once Dwight is settled.

Utah still needs to find a pass first PG. It's just a must if we want to go forward without Al. Those other guys aren't going to be reliable ISOing off the low block. IMO best case scenario is Calderon gets amnestied.

That won't happen. The deadline was Tuesday and he's in the last year of his contract.

Lotta reasons not to "roll the dice" on forcing minutes for Kanter. Volume over quality is a mistake, but I've already beat that drum so lets skip that. Though just to add a wrinkle: look what Washington did with Kwame Brown who entered the league about the same age as Kanter. 1st 2 years, 14 and 22 minutes with with 13.4 and 15.7 PER's -- not shabby for an 18 and 19 year old kid. In year 3, they forced 30 minutes on him, mostly as a starter, and he regressed badly -- a 10.4 PER.

Whether Kwame was ever going to be a good player is actually a separate point. After year 2, Kwame had trade value. After year 3, he didn't. Managing Kanter's development requires the same level of care because he's both a future player for us AND an asset. But if we diminish his trade value in a rush to develop him, we're stuck with a penny stock we hope blows up. Not a good position to be in.

I found a discrepancy in this post. In his third season when Kwame averaged 30 MPG, his PER was actually 15.7, an increase from the previous year. His PER dropped to 10.4 in his fourth season when he missed about half of the season with injuries.

It's also odd that he has been involved in trades where the team trading him has gotten good value. He's been traded for Caron Butler and Pau Gasol.

You're right. Hollinger's stats don't start until 02-03, and his first season was 01-02. My mistake. And yeah, the Butler trade wasn't just a chump swap, though he was only salary fodder in the Gasol swap. I think the point's still the same, though, since he averaged 11 and 7 in 30 minutes a night his 3rd year. It's not like anyone had any illusions at that point that Kwame was a franchise player after that. And RFA rules being what they are, they really should have been more patient since he was only 21.
