Offseason Random Twitter Comments about Jazz Players

Paul is the starting power forward for this team. He's done and been everything we could have hoped for. Al needs to go, but the FO has played that scenario way too conservatively. Many people on this board know this. Paul knows this. FOs say all the time that "this is a business," so why can't Paul act the same way when business needs handling? Why can't he say that he is a starting PF when asked? Why can't he say that with a face as calm and confident as a Hindu cow? He should.

Favors should be the starting Power Forward of this team. I don't blame Millsap for exploring his options. He probably will find a starting gig somewhere, however, if the Jazz are serious about building around Favors you can't have Millsap making an enormous amount of money coming off the bench. (The Manu Ginobli thing works because he doesn't interfere with Duncan's minutes directly. I'd imagine Hayward or Burks will play this role.)

I guess Favors' ability to play the C means nothing to you? Also, what about the 48 minutes/night somebody needs to play the PF?

I want Favors to start as much as the next guy. But I'm also the dude that would have shipped Al outta town by last season's trade deadline at the latest.

(please don't respond with the comment that "Favors wants to play the 4". Thx)

that's the only thing i hate about millsap: he is a b**ch when it comes down to come off the bench.

just accept a role which is the best for your team. you still would get around 30 minutes per game off the bench and you could even flourish more.

you'll never become an all-star in this league. you're a borderline all-star, accept it. millsap is a great player, really quite a gifted one but i think he needs to come down to earth and accept that his potential is limited now and that favors will take his role, soon.

don't get me wrong, he is a very good player, arguably this team's mvp but he is better suited as a sixth man which also should be his role on a contender. he is the third best scoring option of a team à la ginobili or harden. like those two guys, better suited to come off the bench.

still, millsap is one of my favourite players but i hate how he behaves and his attitude when the topic is that he has to come off the bench.

This. Great post NAOS.

Who are you talking about? Hopefully not someone already on our team.
I've said many times that I want Al gone.
MoTown,
I like you because I know you watch most of the games and care about the Jazz, but I really want to diarrhea all over your opinions about Millsap lately.

He might be the greatest player I've ever seen since he's managed to be consistent in the post-Sloan era, during which time he has actually developed some real on-court chemistry with Jefferson -- which is something a lot of great players and coaches can't say. Millsap knows better than anybody that he's been the foundation of this franchise since DWill and Sloan left. And, still, he has to put up with a fan base that doesn't know **** since they can't see the game. They see Al's stats and remember something about Paul being undersized, and all critical thinking gets short circuited.

Did you take a break from watching jazz games in February, because Millsap was consistently bad that entire month. I do agree that Millsap has been our cornerstone player, which is why both he and Al must go, as neither player deserves to be paid as that type of player.

Will Favors be that cornerstone player? I don't know, but we can't know until we give Favors a try. In the meantime we either trade Al and Millsap for assets or let them walk and build the team around Favors, and Hayward, Kanter, and Burks. If Mo, Marvin, and Foye work out we can sign them as well as quality role players. As well as a couple more bigs with all that money, and hopefully the GS pick ends up being decent to really good to go along.

And yes I watched just about every game this last year.

favors needs to play 25+ minutes per game and get enough touches to grow noticeably. i don't care if he starts, but obviously it's a lot easier if he does.

my ideal starting lineup is still paul + favors. i just doubt the jazz are going to bring their highest paid player and leading scorer/rebounder off the bench.

I think this is where our opinion differs. If the Jazz retain either Millsap or Jefferson. I would prefer the Jazz to retain Jefferson. He can play both the PF and C position, he's longer, and I think he's the better player out of the two of them. As far as Favors goes, I do believe what he prefers to play does matter a little bit. If the Jazz want to make Favors the "face" of the franchise they need to keep him happy. This reminds me a little bit about Duncan whining about being a Power Forward... The Spurs just went along with it. I think the Jazz will do the same.

Good Post by the way, NAOS, I appreciate the conversation.

I think it will be fair to have them both starting at different games depending on the matchups we get. For easy opponents, let favors start. For tougher la laker caliber opponents, let millsap start, but quickly sub in favors and force the other team to play their starters a lot longer. If corbin can manage this very well, then all is good. Historically, Are there any players that millsap consistently owns or struggles against?

I guarantee you this would only make the problem worse. I don't believe that Favors or Millsap would like this idea. Both would argue that it ruins chemistry and consistency. Both players want to start, however, only one can be the "starter". You can't have your cake and eat it too in this situation.

The only possibility I can see working out is the "Big" lineup w/ starting Millsap as a Small Forward. However, I'm not sure how Marvin will take coming off the bench.

I'm also not sure if I have confidence in Coach Pop to pull of a stunt like this, let alone Coach Corbin.

I want to add that I do like the fact that you're thinking outside the box. Rep'd

If the Jazz hope to keep Millsap, he'll have to be a starter. Sorry, I just don't see Favors as a starting 5, nor Al coming off the bench. If/when Millsap re-signs, they can ask him to anchor the 2nd unit since he will have already received his big contract. Seriously, I think that is one of the biggest factors: if Paul gives up his starting role, he won't be offered as much next summer.

Will the common fan revolt if favors does not start? I'd assume must die hards would riot. From my perspective if he is benched for milsap to pave the way to his next contract, im gonna....im gonna, shoot I don't know what I will do, but I sure as hell won't be buying league pass again to watch that dysfunctional front line 82 times.
