Good or Bad?

The military has contingency plans for all kinds of hypothetical situations. I'm sure the Chinese do the same thing. Either way, a war with China is about as unlikely as wars get. And it would be a serious civilization disrupting event that must be avoided at all costs.

I agree but I can see people freaking out about it. Just wanted to guage reactions amoung my fellow forum lurkers.

On my second deployment we had a battle stations drill once a week, or more. We almost exclusively had our scenario set up (the tactical officer comes over the 1MC and runs through a little scenario) with all countries going by the name of a color. Anyway, country "purple" bore a striking resemblance to Iran. So once a week while our ship was doing circles in the Persian Gulf we pretended to respond to an attack from Iran...um, I'm sorry, country purple. That was in 2005.

During my first deployment we often ran drills that, again, involved an unnamed country, but it was clearly Pakistan. We were allies with Pakistan at the time. That was 2003.

A) It tells us what everyone already knows. China has no offensive capacity.
B) If China were to build a competent navy then we could just let Japan build one again too. I really wouldn't care much if Japan were to chop the country up the middle and make 4 or 5 baby China's out of it.
