I'm not interested in discussiong the politics of Akin's statement, since Romney has disavowed it.

However, in reading around, I read in the second link that many people in Catholic school believed it (I don't ever recall doing so or being so taught, but it's been over 30 years). Has anyone in hear heard this? Do anyone believe it?

Hope the guys wife slapped the crap out of him when he got home. Idiot.
 
I think this should be outrageous enough for TheSilencer to be certain of its truth.

He thinks that "real rapes" rarely result in pregnancies. Probably because the raped would just use the Force to stop the sperm from reaching their destination.
 
Now that I've read the articles, I still want to know WTF Akin was thinking. It's interesting that even when he said he "misspoke" he still didn't backtrack from his original comments. He expressed more sympathy for rape victims, but that's it.

Women who say they were raped, but since they didn't release hormones that killed off all the sperm, must have really wanted the actions, and thus were not raped.

Or something like that, apparently.

The second link said this was a common belief in a posters Catholic high school. I went to a Catholic high school, but I don't remember ever hearing this one. I was curious if anyone did.

Could he have been reffering to false rape reports? Where the woman is just pissed at the guy for something so wants to get revenge?

Edit: I do not mean to indicate that is a common occurance but I do believe it happens.

In the sense that if a woman is pregnant, it is probably a false rape report (if a report has been made).

How is that related to his statement about legitimate rape not leading to pregnancy?
 
So this is a justification for refusing rape victims the right to have the product of their rape aborted? Brilliant!

exactly!!! because the point is you need to punish the rapist, not the possible product of his actions

or maybe you just need to punish the victim for not resisting hard enough

He may have something like that in mind. Most likely, his thought process goes like this:

There is a bodily mechanism that prevents conception based on consent. Since a lot of women who claim to have been raped get pregnant, they could not really have been raped.

I didn't attend Catholic school However, I can state that the Catholic church doesn't teach that. I wouldn't be surprised if it was some old myth that supposedly supports the pro-life argument. I'll look this up...
