The NFL in Utah won't happen anytime in the near future. It's a big difference filling a arena of 19,000 compared to a stadium of 70,000.
The Sunday factor does play a role. I'm sure there are a good number of LDS people who would go, but would it be enough?

i'd love to see a team in Utah, but there are other cities who are far more attractive, with higher TV deals possible.

Like I said earlier, it's not going to happen. But I do think Utah could support a team. There are tons of Mormons who would go to the games. I'm on of those. I miss church to go to the local amusement park with no second thoughts. I wouldn't buy season tix, but I'd hit up a few select games every season.
Finding a spot for a stadium is another issue. Where would it go? South end of the valley like RSL did? Davis County? Southwest corner like Daybreak or The District? Of those, Davis County is the quickest/easiest from the airport, but the hotels ain't that great. But I guess you could stay at any of the airport hotels. Somebody earlier mentioned a domed stadium. HELL NO!!!!!!!!!
As far as team names: anybody suggesting anything with a double z at the end is a moran.

I agree with the person who said there would be a lot of support at first but not over the long haul. I'm not that into the NFL. If we had a team here, I'd try to catch a non-Sunday game when possible, but I'd still follow the Jazz more.

3rd week in you would be hitting the tail gate parties, get wasted, paint your belly and face, and would be hooked.

Don't you mean hit the tail gate parties, sing hymns, pray and suddenly you wake up in a church pew with a wife and north of 5 kids...

I can't say I am a huge NFL fan to begin with. If Utah were to get a team(unlikely), I would try to support them. Same with Major League Baseball even though I already have an allegiance to a team. Now move the Rays to SLC and rename them..... That's not happening, I know. One can dream though.

IMO, there's no doubt that Utah could support an NFL team, but it's never going to happen. As somebody already pointed out, the NFL has it sights set on L.A. and international. The other hurdle is the LDS church. It's only 8 home games we're talking about, so I don't think the church would be too worried about church attendance, however, I think they would be bothered by the overall fact that the NFL would have such a presence locally on Sundays and compete for influence on the sabbath.

I don't think you'd see somebody of LDS faith (think Dave Checkettes) attempt to bring in an NFL team and go toe-to-toe with his own church. So you'd be looking for somebody who's an outsider/non LDS to come into town and go up against a very powerful orginization. Not happening.

I think eventually the NFL is going to spread out it's games a little more. They have been thinking about it.

How about this. We get 8 home games right?

Play two on Monday
Play two on Thursday
Play one in London( at first, get it going)
Play 3 on Saturdays. ( NFL has thought about it)

That's what I'm saying. The big money can't look their bishop in the eye and say they are season ticket holders, suite owners and so fourth. Selling nosebleed tickets to mo's, no problem. But the Jazz sell something like 80% of their seats as season ticket seats. They only need to sell a few thousand seats to non-season ticket holders to "sell-out" a game. Anyone ever been to a "sell-out" game and noticed how many empty seats there are? Anyway, the same people who run Utah business and industry are the same people with high-up positions in the LDS church. The exact people you need to buy sponsorships, corporate suites, season tickets, etc.. I don't think LDS leadership is going to buy season tickets or be seen at the games on Sunday.

What do you guys think about just bumping The Utes up to NFL level in a few years? The MWC couldn't contain us, and soon the PAC12 won't be able to either.
