What's new

Jefferson thinks Sloan can unleash the ‘Beast' that's been in him for "so long"

He really needs to stop trying to speak proper. It makes him sweat a damn mess all over the place. This dude is Ghetto, but I could care less as he has passion and desire and he will be a beast this year.

Too bad they don't have ghettos in small southern towns, you ****ing hack.

Stop it with the racism

You guys really need to cut out the talk about "ghetto-boy" and "Mississippi". Just because someone grew up in a southern state or a poor neighborhood, does not make them stupid. If a player grew up under hard circumstances, perhaps that's one of the reasons he is driven to do well.

Would you be offended if someone treated a player from Utah as if he'd grown up in a polygamist compound? You should be. Yes, these statements would just reflect their ignorance, but people should be culturally aware enough not to post such inflammatory statements on a public forum. This is especially true since Jazz players might browse these forums to see what fans are saying.

Do you want to alienate our newest star? No wonder we have a tough time recruiting talent.

I don't see ghetto as a racist term. In order to assume it is being used in a racist way you have to first assume that only black people live in the ghetto. I for a fact know that it isn't true, so I don't assume references to the ghetto are intended to demean black people. Besides that ghetto has become a slang term that is replacing jury-rigged. To say someone's speech is ghetto implies that they don't use proper English. Al Jefferson does not use proper English. Others pointed out that his style of speech was not a result of living in an urban area, as implied by the use of ghetto to describe it, but instead a result of living in the rural south. None of that is racist.

In short, relax.

I am plenty relaxed. I am not offended personally. But I definitely think that Al Jefferson would have every reason to be. Even if not directly brining race into the discussion, you are insulting his language, his culture, and where he grew up.

I just think you are reinforcing the perception that the world (and NBA players) have of Utah.

I can see where Hipporippo is coming from jumping to that conclusion. I mean with all the borderline racism that goes on on this forum on a regular basis with everyone acting as if it's the norm, it's not hard to connect the dots even if that was not the intended innuendo.

Not saying anyone is right. I'm just saying it's easy to see all sides of this. Just look at all the racist stuff CJ blurts out on this forum on a regular basis. Acting as if anyone who's not white or has tattoos is some second hand citizen who isn't worth a damn and shouldn't be respected.

Anyway. It might be nice if we all, including me, tried to practice a little more tolerance and understanding of those who aren't exactly like ourselves. And not assume or be so quick to put people into neat little stereotypes based on our limited world experience and sometimes narrow views.

Just sayin... peace, love, hug a tree...or something.

Nice, lol. +2,301 internets. You made a profit my friend. :P (Cheesy smiley, hehe)

Ghetto? Cause he's black? By the sounds of his up-bringing, he doesn't seem to come from any ghetto I know.

Because I am sure you know many ghettos? Get out of here *******.

You are obviously a VERY stupid person. Besides that you are just stupid, maybe in your small whacked out town you have not come to realize that Ghetto is the meaning of many things. FO

This happens pretty regularly here on Jazzfanz my friend.

You should use the ignore feature for "CarolinaJazz" and "Ain'tNuthin," err "Hopper" and you'll probably be a lot happier.

I firmly believe anyone who saw my post as racisit is from Utah. If not from Utah some othercrappy place with no diversity. Quit being so damn sensitive.
