What's new

My personal Best Buy discussion

So one of your good friends is also good friends with Marvin? Good enough that he invited him to watch a practice?

Not quite. He played AAU ball with Marvin. He still keeps in contact with Marvin every once in a while. I'm sure that Marvin playing for the Jazz will mean that they talk/see each other more.

This is what I am not clear about. I don't know if he was there for business or because he was invited by someone else. He is the manager for a person that is retired but is still very much associated with the Jazz organization. He has been that persons manager for a while now. I really can't say more beyond that though.

The fact that Mo Williams is pushing Favors is awesome. Glad to see someone finally do what I wanted Big Al, Bell adn Howard do.

5th seed here come the Jazz!

That sounds like a nice job. I'd love to manage a retired person. Salary, of course, not a cut of their earnings.

So, I don't think I completely understand the Best Buy story. Let me just summarize it (to the best of my understanding). Someone went to Best Buy. There was a Jazz player there. The fan talked with the Jazz player and got some juicy information that turned out to be false. Is that right?

Anyway, I talked to a very good friend today. Months ago he said that Marvin Williams (who he played AAU ball with) would be a perfect fit for the Jazz and that Harris was the likely trade bait to make it happen. That was back in January. Low and behold, the Jazz have Williams and they don't have Harris.

Anyway, he mentioned to me that he was at the practice facility within the last couple of weeks. He told me to keep my eye on one player this year, Alec Burks. He mentioned that everyone that will play PG, SG or SF took turns guarding him (all the ones that are healthy) and no one could stop him. He was blowing by people and it sounded like Burks even played some better than average defense. One other note about Burks, one of the coaching staff told my friend that Burks had been shooting the 3 ball about 15 to 20% better than he did all of last year, practices or games.

One last thing that he told me is that Mo Williams and Favors already have a great connection. They seem to be working together nicely. My friend told me that there was one play while playing 5 on 5 that Favors didn't get a rebound that Williams thought that he should. Mo stopped everything and went and had a stern talking to with Favors, telling him that he is the best player on the court and he needed to start acting like it. The best player on the court would get that rebound and so Favors should start doing that.

I know that this is all hear/say. I am just ready for the season to start. Normally college football (mainly BYU) and the NFL hold my interest long enough for the regular NBA season to start but this year I am already dying and can't wait for the season to start. Yes, I am ready for all of the ridicule that is coming my way.

I'll rate you as a beginner and give you a 3/5. Writing Fanfics takes time and practice. You'll get there.

This is getting juicy now.. Oranglotan just PM'd me and said Al is planning on shooting the push-shot again this year. No let ups.

Hope it's true! Assuming so, I see these areas that Burks has got to improve to take it to the next level.
1. Basketball IQ and courtvision (this includes shot selection and his willingness to pass)
2. More aggression on defense with staying power/strength (he was manhandled by Michael Redd last year)

I believe his three point shooting % for this reason: he shot 50% on limited attempts total on his spot up threes; if he has good shot selection his % will go way up.

Spot-Up Threes
Steve Novak 54.4% (55% of his total threes)
Burks 50% (50% of his total threes)
Kyle Korver 48.9% (49.5% of his total threes)
Ray Allen 47.1% (32% of his total threes)
Gordon Hayward 35.4% (80% of his total threes)

That's really cool that Mo is putting the onus on Favors and that they're developing that kind of rapport.

My friend at MSU just told me that the Jazz plan on waiving Raja Bell to sign Travis Outlaw. Outlaw, Mo-Will, and Jefferson will then take the locker-room over and fire everyone, hiring back only Mississippi players. Then they will force management to move the team to Mississippi, and rename the team "Jackson Blues".

There was something else that I failed to mention. I asked my friend if he thought Marvin Williams would come off the bench and he told me the odds of that happening were as close to 100% as possible.

This is interesting in the sense that I would think things are wide open in camp when it comes to determining starters at the 2 and 3.

Jonathan Bender and Monta Ellis are ready to join the team after the relocation is made.

So long as this hazing of Burks doesn't have the same negative affect as Al's did on Kanter.
Otherwise, Mo needs to keep his Onus to himself.

Yeah they say that but I bet the have a pretty good idea of who they are going to go with.

I agree that there is a difference between hazing and challenging a player. What we have here (bless you GnR) is Mo challenging Favors and providing that veteran leadership.
