Jefferson thinks Sloan can unleash the ‘Beast' that's been in him for "so long"

Let's not forget one important fact in this debate: Al Jefferson is not well spoken. He does not use what could be described as "proper English." So do we have to dance around that fact or is it okay to state it plainly?

There are plenty of people hear who would probably say "yeah, we gotta dance around it," eh, Game? They would at least act that way even if they *said* "no, we don't"

My answer, and I aint just payin stupid lip service to something I don't really adhere to, is "of course not." And that fact has nuthin to do with race, or even intelligence, really.

Some might claim that anybuddy who graduates from high school without having a certain level of competency in written and spoken english can't be "intelligent." I disagree. Knowing English is a matter of education, not intelligence.

I haven't read much about whatever you guys are talking about, but I'm falling back on my 'Hopper is right' stance.

Magic Johnson, for one, had absolutely atrocious grammatical patterns and an extremely limited vocabulary for the first few years he was in the NBA. He was a jock in high school, who only cared about playin ball, and it was no different for him in college really (all two years worth). Now he's an articulate commentator on national TV.

He really needs to stop trying to speak proper. It makes him sweat a damn mess all over the place. This dude is Ghetto, but I could care less as he has passion and desire and he will be a beast this year.

So are you saying he's ghetto because he's black or stupid because he's from the south? I really don't think that he's the one that's ignorant here.

Can you imagine that fox actually gave him a talk show?? Unreal.

Well, Aint, the problem is that it is difficult to fill a team with players who have self-motivation and/or are already developed/mature/into the team concept. IMHO, what makes a great coach is one who can instill those things. How much credit should a coach get for being able to integrate players who are low maintenance

"It's finding guys that fit the system. It's a matter of really making sure you bring in guys that have both the character and the ability to accept a role that you plan for them. If you're just thinking that because someone is talented it's going to work, it usually doesn't.

If you get guys and find out this guy doesn't work and that guy doesn't work, then all of the sudden you've wasted money and you've wasted corporate knowledge and the best player's time," Popovich said. "Great players only have so much time in the league, and it goes more quickly than any of us think." (Popovich)

I don't see Popovich posing as some master psychologist who can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear when it comes to prima donnas and/or unmotivated players, eh, S2? NBA coaches aren't adults teachin impressionable, eager-to-please, 5th graders, over whom they can have tremendous influence. But that's the level you seem to be thinkin on.

Many players who have played for Sloan (including Meech, even) have given high praise to him for his teachin ability. That aint to say he can make a horse drink, though. Just ax Meech, who said once he got his big contract, he didn't care about basketball anymore.

Let's not try to kid ourselves here. There is one definition of "ghetto" that is used primarily and it is used to describe African-Americans like you did. I don't buy for one minute you meant it any other way, and I suspect several others don't either. At least have the testicular fortitude to stand by what you said and meant rather than pretend there is some other definition that others don't seem to get.

You assume I am white which makes this all the more comical. Get off the box clown.
Is that how you use the term gheto? The people I run with come in all colors and we all use the term as it presents itself. In fact I don't know anyone who has never used the term. Alot of people in Utah have this anxiety about how people around the USA view them. Well you come off square as hell with your diatribe.

I'm not assuming anything about your race. Since you clearly didn't mean "ghetto" as a derogatory term toward Al Jefferson, what exactly DID you mean by it? Let me guess, you don't owe me or anyone else an explanation?

The first time I heard anybody use the word "fox" to mean a Babe was back in the 1920's, and, guess what?: It was me what done it, that's what! I knew as soon as I said it that EVERYONE now used it that way and that all the dictionary's had been rewritten. A "fox" simply wasn't a 4 legged critter anymore, and never would be. Words mean whatever I say they mean. For EVERYBODY.
