Apparently the eggs are, and as a result retailers don't bother shipping these:

I was in shock when my American friend was talking to me about this. I would do some stupid-*** **** for a Kinder Bueno. Nomnomnomnomnom

What the hell is a kinder chocolate?

My thoughts exactly. Apparently not only have they been banned but within the U.S. all evidence of their existence has been destroyed.

The CIA will be along shortly to shut this thread down.

What kind of company puts a small plastic toy inside of chocolate candy intended for children to eat.

that's why.

I don't really like chocolate, but if it's banned, I want some.

Trust, it is the food of the Gods.

Kick-*** companies. Highlight of my youth was my parents buying one egg for me, one for my older brother every time we went grocery shopping, and building the toys as soon as we got home. Seriously.

Building a toy?

Explain more. What is in those things?

Hollow milk chocolate egg, that houses this rounded, cylindrical plastic shell on the inside.

Open up the shell, and you get a bunch of tiny disassembled pieces, with a little instruction manual of how to build this given toy. Nowadays they're mostly cop-outs, but back when I was young it was like 8 pieces, all put together to make a toy car with wheels, around 4-5cm long.

These things are ****ing awesome.

I'm not sure about the eggs, but the Dutch store is Sugarhouse does sell a few kinds of Kinder for the uninitiated. You can also find them in the World Market next to Target around 60th south.

Who eats the toys? Thats ridiculous.

You are not allowed so send any Kinder eggs from the military base. There is actually a sign up about it.

In slightly related news buckyballs desk toys have effectively been banned because stupid kids, who the package says 5 times to keep the toys away from, sometimes eat them.

Good thing I already have a ****load of them then. :D

Edit: It seems they only banned that brand? Strange. You can still pick up rare earth magnets of any shape you choose from specialized suppliers.
